i think people who leave small or no tips on large tabs are dinks.
i think that unless extreme circumstances are at play, the people who name people who leave small VOLUNTARY tips, are also dinks.
if you want to make sure servers get tips, force people to pay a certain percentage tip by adding it to the bill, but make everyone aware of it before they “get surprised” on the bill. that way they can decide if they want to eat there or not.

Adding an automatic gratuity to the bill is like adding an automatic “B” to a student’s report card.

When we go to some of our regular places to dine, she knows the good servers and requests them by name. Tips aren't a "right", they are something that a good server will try to be worthy of. Good servers do very well despite the occasional low-life.

My wife and I ate at a Mexican restaurant, somewhere in the vicinity of the Grand Canyon several years ago, we noticed , on the menu at the bottom, in very small print, a note that said, "a 15% gratuity has been added to all menu prices". Many people were leaving tips, presumably, not having seen that very small notice.

Works for me. But the servers better not come back and expect a tip on top of that.
