One fan in the stands of the Boston Red Sox game Thursday had more on his mind than just the love of the game.
Apparently, the 12-year-old boy was also thinking about the little girl sitting behind him at Fenway Park.
When an official handed Ryan a foul ball, he immediately turned around and handed it to a young girl behind him. Her mother's jaw dropped and she thanked Ryan for the unexpected act of kindness.
She wasn't the only one impressed by his decision. Ryan sat back down with a big smile on his face and his mother patted him on the head.
"His mother raised him right," Major League Baseball officials tweeted.
The whole exchange was broadcast live, leading commentator Jerry Remy to say, "I think thats one of the nicest things Ive seen at the ballpark all year."
A little later in the game, reporter Gary Striewski interviewed Ryan on camera.
Striewski asked Ryan if he knew how many people were watching the game on TV had seen him give the ball to the girl, named Reece.
"Ten thousand?" Ryan asks.
"A little bit more than that, man," Striewksi said. "Either way, that was one heck of a gesture."
Striewski presented Ryan with TWO baseballs - once from each announcer - Remy and Don Orsillo.
"That's called 'paying it forward,'" Striewski told Ryan.
"I saw people do it before," Ryan said. "I thought it was a nice thing and it's good to make people happy."
The Red Sox also gave Ryan a bag of treats, including a bracelet. Ryan gave that to his new friend, as well.

Meanwhile, the National Organization of Women (NOW) issued a statement condemning the young man’s actions, stating that chivalrous actions such as opening doors and giving up baseballs only perpetuates gender stereotypes about women. They urged the parents of the young female victim to file a human rights complaint in the city of Boston.
In a related move, Planned Parenthood concurred with the actions of NOW and offered free abortions to women so traumatized by the obvious bias that they decided to kill their babies rather than bring them to term.
Lol!
But hey, the kid got two, made his mom proud, got a new GF and a million dollars worth of free PR
a foul ball hit the stands near us and I was fastest and dove for it and came up with it holding it up overhead like a prize,
some older guy, in the row behind, about 20 years old or so grabbed it and ran

Granpa was always kinda pragmatic like that, he'd pay me something like a quarter for mowing his lawn when I was trying to earn some money for something or other
cue Tim McGraw
“...some older guy, in the row behind, about 20 years old or so grabbed it and ran”
That’s pretty messed up. Sounds like something 20-year-olds nowadays would do, but you’d probably been knocked out first.
My daughter and her husband caught a fowl ball during one of the Tiger games this year and gave it to a young boy sitting near them.....
Omigod, that kids going to be a playa.
Okayyyy... thank you for that tid-bit of very personal information?
Way too few of them, lately.
Women are going to eat this guy alive when he grows up.
