Yeah, that’s sad, Virginny is about to slam them big time, talk about a family affair..sadly, harry Reid gets away with it.. Family benefiting that is.
If I had been on that Jury I would have voted to acquit...to have to pass judgment on what was meant by the supposed “wink wink nod nod” behavior of the governor and wife as presented by a OBAMA/HOLDER run prosecution would put me into the position of God almighty...or at least a competent mind reader. This was a federal case not a state case. A state case might not have even happened but the Feds decided to intervene as they have in a number of cases all in attempt to use Federal prosecution authority to cut down on the number of “deep bench” Republicans who would have a shot in the 2016 presidential campaigns. A number of these counts against McDonald will be thrown out on appeal.
This case will polarize Virginia politics for a long while and both sides will be accusing each others’ politicians for “wink wink nod nodding” for money, contracts ect. The Dem’s may have been wiser not to have push this in Virginia as I feel the politics in this state are about to become even more explosive. There may be at least a temporary public benefit of politicians on both sides becoming very “pious” at least publically when it comes to the matter of their finances though some of them may experience financial hardships. It will effect Dem’s in this state especially hard as they will be under intense local scrutiny for the same behaviors that the McDonalds were accused of.
“A pox on both houses” I would have said as a juror in the McDonald case and I would have voted to acquit. I am not a “wink wink nod nod” mind reader and the evidence presented is so nuanced and circumstantial(if it was done with this motive they’re guilty and if it was done with that motive then they’re innocent)...I would have questioned the “wink wink nod nod” motives of the Obama backed Fed prosecutors and voted to acquit!
McAuliffe has actually been caught taking money in a similar fashion but gave it back as political commentators began to criticize McAuliffe for doing a McDonald. The loan in question was offered in more of a transparent fashion and was considered legal but McAuliffe nixed the deal considering the optics of the issue.
