Lindsey Graham weakest GOP incumbent in U.S. Senate, poll says

This election year, Lindsey Graham has the weakest foothold of all Republican incumbents in the U.S. Senate, according to results of a poll released on Sept. 7. The 2014 “Battleground Tracker,” conducted by YouGov.com on behalf of the New York Times and CBS News, finds the South Carolina senator to have confirmed support from only 37 percent of voters in the state. Another five percent say they are currently leaning toward the incumbent, but can’t confirm their votes for Graham.

His 37-percent take is not only lowest of all 13 Republican senators up for re-election this year, who average 53.5 percent in support; it also marks a recent drop for Graham, as well. A July study found 45 percent of likely voters to support the incumbent. Those former supporters apparently changed status to undecided, a number that’s grown from eight percent in July’s poll to 19 for September.

“It clearly shows that Graham is very weak,” said Lachlan McIntosh, campaign manager for state Sen. Brad Hutto, who is Graham’s Democratic opponent in 2014. “Hutto can win with the normal Democratic coalition in South Carolina.”

Hutto, who’s represented the Orangeburg region in state senate since 1996, currently has support from 28 percent of likely voters, with another one percent leaning his way. He leads Graham most in voters under the age of 45, however, which is the same age group with the highest portion of undecided respondents (31 percent). The incumbent senator only has majority support from voters who self-identify as conservatives and who are of ages 65 and older.

I thought McConnell was the weakest. Then Roberts was the weakest. Now Graham is the weakest.

Whatever. I hope Graham is removed from power in November. He is a vile and insidious oligarch!

Might pull a hat trick and off Graham, McConnell and Cochran all in the same night.

The GOP is expected to win the open seats in MT, WV and SD, so it looks like it'll be a wash. Oh, well.. maybe Harry Reid will just die in office.

Oh, and add Roberts (KS) as well to the list of possible casualties in November. The dems may very well actually ADD a seat.

Have you donated to Graham's democrat opponent yet?

OPEN PRIMARIES are the death of the party. Dems decide the rep nominee and conservatives lose out. The GOPe don’t want to change a thing because it is the only way they keep their power.

Getting rid of liberal republicans needs to happen at the primary or in the general election. You don't get to make rules about when conservatives support republicans.

I won't be voting for Cornyn in the general election. He's a liberal.

Conservatives must vote against RINO’s.

Conservatives cannot turn the country around until we get rid of the traitors within the Republican Party.

Vote against McConnell, Graham, Roberts, Alexander and Cochrane!

No, a liberal republican presidential candidate that didn't even match his party platform is what gave you Obama. The GOP owns that because liberals have been allowed to thrive within the GOP.

RCP has Graham leading by an average of 15%. How does that translate to “most vulnerable?”

McConnell, Graham, Roberts, Alexander and Cochrane

No worries... if they somehow survive this year, the dems are going to knock the GOP on its collective ass in 2016. What a relief, right?

That wouldn't have to happen if the GOP would get conservative.

The Whigs became a footnote in history in an election cycle because people just wouldn't vote for them.

“RCP has Graham leading by an average of 15%. How does that translate to “most vulnerable?””

My guess is that average is using older polls.

I don't support liberals, republican or democrat.

I don't need to donate to their opponents, because liberal republicans are killing themselves at the voting booth.

I do support conservative politicians.
