GE was Thomas Edison’s company at one time.

As long as I can still get parts to fix and maintain my old GE refrigerator I'm okay with it.

Now, if they could restore the brand to its former glory of decades ago I might be happy enough to buy a new one instead fixing the old one.

But really, what are the chances of that happening? That would be like fixing GM. Can't get there from here.

I think most GE appliances like washers and dryers are made at GE’s Appliance Park in Louisville, KY

Here’s the local liberal Gannet’s take on this:

GE was a great company. Then they fired Ronald Reagan for being conservative, and it was all downhill.

Experts speaking on condition of anonymity said they did not expect the deal to be blocked by antitrust concerns.

I suspect the anonymous experts are a little richer today...Why should anyone be concerned with antitrust laws when huge profits are at stake???

Hopefully Electrolux will start making robotic floor cleaners to compete with iRobot. For its part, iRobot is tantalizingly close to having an “essential home appliance”, with its Roomba and Scooba products.

The goals are a quiet, low maintenance system, that sacrifices speed and noise for detail and self maintenance. Ideally, it works all night, most every night, emptying and recharging itself, whether it is dry or wet.

If they come up with a good enough system, furniture redesign would be worth it.

We just got a Whirlpool stove last weekend. It’s made in America. The broiler is at the top of the oven so I don’t have to lie on the floor and watch to make sure the marshmallows don’t burn on the yams this Thanksgiving.
