That ship has sailed. No matter which side of the story you are on, Goodell has demonstrated that he follows the pattern of a certain sitting US president in allowing events to overwhelm him until he eventually issues some inconsequential statement or ineffectual dictate after the time for action is long past.

Like his political counterpart, Goodell luxuriates in anodyne causes largely removed from his actual duties: breast cancer, head injuries, kids’ exercise, etc.

Both are (or were) lawyers and both choose to substitute their own whim for the written law with the usual claim that what they are doing is ‘too important’ to be subject to statute.

The NFL is a business. Businesses don’t make money by firing their best employees.
