Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson abruptly announced he's selling the team because he's guilty of sending an email so racist ... it would make Donald Sterling cringe.
Levenson admits he sent the email to team execs back in 2012, urging them to get more suburban white fans at games. He then laid out all the problems with the current fan base, listing the following:
- it's 70 pct black - the cheerleaders are black - the music is hip hop - at the bars it's 90 pct black - there are few fathers and sons at the games - the concerts [after games] are either hip hop or gospel
Levenson continued in the email ... "My theory is that the black crowd scared away the whites and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a significant season ticket base." He also complained that he's told team execs, "I want some white cheerleaders ... I have even bitched that the kiss cam is too black."

Before hitting "submit" on an email, posting or tweet, think about how much effect it would have on you if it someday appeared on Drudge or the NY Times.Today, there are an increasing number of topics that can only be discussed face to face, in a nightclub too noisy for recording devices to work.
I as a “Northern” [Western} “white” would not be comfortable is such surroundings...nor anywhere near them ...
OK, here’s my dictionary definition of the word — RACISM:
rac·ism
noun
“the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”
“prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.”
EVEN IF THIS E-MAIL WERE MADE PUBLIC, Exactly where in his e-mail did Levenson show racism AS THE WORD IS DEFINED?
His biggest mistake was in believing that his e-mail would be received by adults.
Every year, new tv shows come out. Each network has at least one that caters to a black audience, at least one that caters to a Hispanic audience, and at least one show has a homosexual character.
This is not by accident - its the result of targeting people, based on demographics. The tv networks probably have thousands of similar e-mails...just the roles of the races are reversed.
The new definition includes any statement attributing any negative characteristic to any non-white person or group by a white person, or making any note of any tendency of any white people feeling nervous around black people.
Talking about feeling nervous around any non-whites is also racist.
As a former Atlantan, I can see nothing in his email that is not factual.
That was my thought as well. He wants to get rid of the team and this ws his way out.
Contrast baseball with basketball and you see a much different fan base coming to games. Nothing against The NBA. The Spurs are one of the few teams doing it the right way and world champions.
As a life-long bookkeeper, I see only facts in his writings. I do NOT see racism.
We seem to be at the point where everything we say, do or think is racism.
I only buy WHITE Toilet paper-—Will I be charged with racism for that????
If anyone should be upset by his comments, it’s white people, because he’s basically saying that all whites who don’t come to Hawks games because they don’t think the neighborhood is safe are racists.
Dey gots deyselfs a classic case of de “white flight” right at the sports venue.
Jus like he say.
Its not racist. It is true. However, an argument could be made that it shows sectional bias when he knows full well other sections of the country are the same when it comes to a white person wading into a crowd of blacks.
As a current metro Atlantan, you are right, he is exactly on target.
Not saying that at all but normally when there is a confrontation or fight between the races, its 10 black men and women vs one white man or woman. Its the pack mentality brought over from the old country (continent).
You can see which demographic the Hawks are going after with this jersey.
