I'm 6'5" and my knees are hard against the upright seat back. When I try to put my legs under the seat like you suggest, my shins hit the seat bottom before they extend at all. Net gains of zero. So I guess that makes me an idiot, huh?

So you have a height handicap, and you want society to give you special consideration as such. I suppose that's a fair request.

Why don't you write your congressman and request action to help height-challenged travelers get the special assistance they require.

I don’t have a handicap and don’t require special help. But if you sit in front of me, you won’t be able to recline.

If the button works, it's going back. Slowly at first, to give a police warning. Then if there's resistance, I see it as a challenge... and I'm competitive.

It'll be up for meals of course, and for short flights probably. But, on a long flight where I might need to catch a few winks, it's going to recline.

“polite warning” not “police warning”. Darned cat on the keyboard.

You can push all you want but my femurs are inflexible and you will not recline. Competitive nature won’t overcome a rigid barrier.

Do you have to refrain from using the lavatory for fear of having someone recline their seat while you’re gone?

I would stay off airplanes but the train doesn't go to Việt Nam. I do go on Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese airlines, though. The difference between them and American planes, especially United, is tremendous. I pay about a 20 to 30% premium to avoid American planes. United is the home of the individually wrapped peanut.

China has experimented with “standing” seats, a frame that you buckle yourself into but you don’t sit.

Add to that rude flight attendants

The perfected examples are on United Airlines. They are in the business to travel to exotic locations and wear snappy uniforms. The passengers are regarded as an annoyance at best. They would prefer that at least the economy passengers be loaded into the cargo bay with fork lifts. First class passengers can walk on but don't ask for anything.

United is bearable on short domestic hops but absolutely intolerable on long overseas flights. I flew United once round trip. I won’t get on one again. I am totally a cheapskate but I spend 2-300 more to go on KAL and HKVN than I could make the trip on United. I have flown the same trip on Southwest and Delta. Both are cramped but the staff isn’t surly. They are tolerable-just. You can’t beat an Asian airline, except, of course, Malaysian Air. It has some other problems that seem to be unique to it.
