Forgive me, but that's insane. If you actually bothered to look up rape statistics, New York has the sixth lowest rate of any American city with a population over 250,000. If you want to avoid all population centers, be my guest, but the idea that there is some kind of rape epidemic in New York today -- because of the Central Park jogger case 25 years ago -- is insane.

A friend convinced me to take the family to Rockefeller Center years ago, and when I balked they assured me everything was better since Giuliani/Bloomberg. Stepping over homeless people in the subway, I realized that this was what he meant by “better” - they’d simply been driven out of sight.
