Beatlemania crept into my childhood and robbed me of it. I had been in training for classical and marching percussion and when I got real frisky, I played along with Tijuana Brass and Al Hirt records. The Beatles changed everything and my instructors were horrified, but soon realized that I had redoubled my efforts, and I was passed up the chain to my teachers teachers.

Ba-da, ba-da, ba-da - That's all folks! Another session of compare and contrast comes to a close with just under 450 songs and what appears to be 2 hat tricks. I'm seldom so ambitious, but since I'm only getting here every other weekend I wanted to have some fun. Thanks for indulging (and enduring) me. Until we meet again, happy FReeping, stay safe and be blessed. I'll see you in church.

"Rockin' Down The Highway" and "Born To Be Wild" are from Jeff Scott Soto's "Biker Mice From Mars" album of tunes for 1993's animated TV series of the same name. Although it was cancelled after 3 seasons, it spun off a Super Nintendo video game in 1994 and a comic book series published by Marvel Comics. A 28 episode revival of the TV series appeared in 2006 along with new video games for Nintendo DS & Sony PS2 consoles. By that time Jeff was fronting "Journey" and his own "Boogie Knights" and had moved on, but the cover songs on the Biker Mice LP remain some of his best work.
His other major Media Coup after fronting Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Germany's Axel Rudie Pell and Soul Sirkus, was providing the voice of actor Jason Flemyng, lead singer of the fictional band "Steel Dragon" in the 2001 movie "Rock Star" starring Mark Wahlberg, Jennifer Aniston and Timothy Olyphant along with rock notables, ex-Dokken and current Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson, Black Label Society founder Zakk Wylde and ex-Foreigner and Black Country Communion drummer Jason Bonham (the son of the late John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin). I'm still amazed at Jeff's obscurity considering his formable talent, impressive resume and "sphere's of influence".

"John The Revelator" by Son House presented a dilemma in choosing a cover because there's so many great covers. The Blues Brothers/Taj Mahal version with the choir is a classic and the Warren Haynes/Gov't Mule cover is awesome, but, I've posted them here before. The Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers version is the newest, from an episode of last season's "Sons of Anarchy" and is close to the Gov't Mule cover, but is darker, a bit more bluesy with a hint of Led Zep and the chorus at the very end incorporates some of the Taj Mahal treatment as well.
The Forest Rangers, led by Bob Thiele Jr., is sort of the SOA house band working with various guests artists including Joshua James, Paul Brady, Audra Mae, Billy Valentine, Katey Sagal, Scott Shriner, Franky Perez, Chris Goss, Lyle Workman, Battleme, Slash, Alison Mosshart and The White Buffalo among others over the past 6 seasons. The SOA theme song "This Life" is also by Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers:

Really liking that version with Carlos tearing it up accompanied by India Aries’s languid singing style. Pretty.
