I understand there is a little bit of relevance as far as character background, but it strikes me people are making more of it than there should be.

Imagine if a complete saint lunged at a police officer with a weapon and was shot in self defense. Imagine if the most brutal thug imaginable was shot by a police officer, while he was sleeping.

In the first case the police officer was justified, in the second case it was a criminal act, but I am not sure you guys see it that way.
