A ten gallon gas tank full of fuel weighs about 85 pounds and takes about three cubic feet of space, depending on shape. Ten gallons of gas will take a four door sedan the size of a Tesla 300 miles. It can be filled in 5 minutes anywhere. That is what a battery has to do to compete.
We have been waiting for decades for the miracle battery. All Tesla's engineers and all the taxpayers dollars cannot change the laws of chemical reactions. But it will be profitable. For those who made the correct donations.
Tesla's primary product is PR and they'll sue if you give them a bad review.

The crazy thing is that Clarkson has always said he loves the car. He pointed to beautiful styling, great handling, plenty of power (on a full charge) but it had the drawback of being battery powered and ran it out of juice on the track by driving it like a sports car.
A year or so later James May came to the USA and rented one (because Tesla wouldn't let them test one again). He liked it, pointed out the new features but also pointed out how quickly the battery was dying in the Florida heat. Brian Johnson of AC/DC drove it on the show as well. He said it was a nice car but no thanks.
