For by grace you have been saved through faith and not that of yourselves; it is a gift of God, not as a result of works, lest anyone should boast.
For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Sounds pretty clear to me.
