I wrote my page years ago when I was having a dalliance with the Libertarian party when I was in my mid twenties. I was attracted to them them because they were the only ones who would say out loud that they wanted to abolish extra-constitutional government agencies like the departments of Energy and Education.
I have since accepted that there is such a thing as politics, and that you have to get the people on your side to make real changes to the system. That’s why I have dropped my earlier purism and come to support the Republican party which for all its faults is the only practical vehicle to advance conservative principles within the American political system.
Look, I can out pure all you supposed purists. As a matter of philosophy I’m ready to cut government to the absolute bone. My instincts are radically constitutionalist and minarchist.
I just think we need to be serious about what we’re up against here. The left spent the better part of a century marching through our institutions. If you think we’re going to undo that by needling the hapless Republicans with passive tactics like sitting out elections or patently stupid tactics like voting for Democrats, then you are pathetically mistaken and part of the problem.
There is such a thing as an edit function for your page. You’re about where I was when I was in my early 20s in the mid ‘90s politically. Fortunately, I discovered that my principles were more important than being a mindless party hack and apologist (it took all of a few years once the GOP was in power). I am a Conservative, first and foremost. I support the GOP when its candidates reflect that agenda, not in words, but in deeds. Talk is cheap, especially during an Election Year. When the candidates reflect a liberal/corrupt status quo, they don’t get my support. It’s that simple.
McConnell has done nothing during his 8 years as Minority Leader to actively derail the Zero regime. Contrast that with Harry Reid who used his Minority Leader position to make a monkey out of Dubya and my former Senator Bill Frist when he served as the hapless Majority Leader. Reid has been effective for his side for a decade while the Conservative agenda has been screwed up and down under our so-called “leadership.” That McConnell is even in a competitive race in a federal Republican state is proof positive he only has himself to blame for his incompetence and anti-Conservative agenda.
How do you expect he will magically turn to the right, AFTER an election, come next year, and start doing all the things he should’ve been doing for the past 8 years ? I think you know the answer to that.
