'A former American sailor convicted during the Cold War of leading a family spy ring for the Soviet Union has died in a prison hospital in North Carolina.
Retired Navy Warrant Officer John A. Walker Jr. died Thursday at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman Chris Burke said.
The cause of death was not immediately released. He was 77.
Walker was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in 1985 to passing secrets to the Soviets while he was a shipboard communications officer.
The security breach was then considered among the largest and most devastating leaks of military secrets in the nation's history.
A cryptologist, Walker used his high-level security clearance to provide Navy codes, ship locations, and other sensitive data in exchange for cash.
After his 1976 retirement, Walker recruited his son, his brother and a friend to keep providing the Soviets fresh information. All were convicted.'

Between Clintoon and Zero, Walker did far less damage to this nation’s secrets.

Well that took far too long.
I certainly hope he suffered in his final days.
He should have been put in genpop so that smirk could be wiped off that mug.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Strong msg to follow.....

Soviet spy and traitor John Walker dies aged 77Spies buy secrets for their country. Traitors sell secrets to betray their country. Walker was never a spy, always a traitor.
May the scum burn in hell! And I hope to live to see a few other traitors of high office join him!!

There was no evidence that he adhered to any Marxist ideology or was an America hater. He apparently just did it for the money. A real scumbag.

At least, life meant life. Few things annoy me more than when they release somebody who is meant to be serving a life sentence “so they don’t die in prison”.

Good riddance. This traitor’s activities directly caused the capture of the USS Pueblo in 1968, as well as many unnecessary losses and failures in Vietnam.

He wore a s#!t eating grin through his trial, too.

He sold out the Navy secret codes for almost nothing. I think the Soviets only paid him around $20K a year. Hope he had cancer and died painfully.

"
John Anthony Walker Jr. was born in 1937, the middle son of a Warner Brothers film marketer and an Italian-American mother. Nicknamed "Smilin' Jack," he attended Catholic school and became an altar boy; however, his childhood was traumatic. His father descended into a hell of alcoholism and lost his job."

He had Stage 4 throat cancer. I’d say that’s what got him.
