Without passage of a spending bill by Sept. 30, the federal government will run out of money and grind to a halt, but leading Republicans, facing the November midterm elections, say they will block any attempt by the party’s conservative wing to force a self-defeating amnesty confrontation with the White House.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told CNN that despite Democrats’ hopeful predictions and right-wing threats that another shutdown is looming, it’s not going to happen.

Asked whether he would favor a government shutdown, McConnell told CNN, “Of course not. I’m the guy that’s gotten us out of shutdowns that some of our members have pushed us into in the past. That’s a failed policy.” …

Mitch CAN block any liberal legislation that he wants to. He just doesn't want to. See the last shutdown for his cloture votes.

He's a liberal that enables the liberal agenda. He'll do what he always does and not even put up a token fight against it.

Yes, he does. His cloture votes were critical to getting Harry Reid's agenda up for a vote, so the 50 dems could pass it.

If the liberal republican minority leadership hadn't provided the cloture votes, it would have never gone to a vote.

He can block legislation from being voted on.

He won't do it because he's a liberal supporting the liberal agenda.

Not when McConnell provided critical cloture votes for the funding obamacare and removing the debt limit.

He's a bleeding liberal that supports the liberal agenda.

He must be politically destroyed and never win election again.

Not completely. And there are other parliamentary things that can be done in the senate to slow or stop legislation.

Mitch is a faggoty liberal that needs to be shown the door.

other than your usual defeatist attitude, i generally enjoy your posts
but anyone who would rather see a D take a seat instead of a R
is someone I generally have no use for
but hey, that’s just me

The article is just so much bullshit.
#1- Mitch McConnell does not control the Senate.
#2- Mitch McConnell does not control the House.

I'm not sure he can control his bowels

I'm the one that wants to keep on fighting. I'm not defeatist. Despair is a sin.

If the R is a liberal, just like the D, then I don't care which liberal gets it, because I don't want either of them.

My enemy is liberals, both democrat and republican.

Mitch is a liberal republican.

I'm not a Republican.

I'm a conservative.

I despise liberal republicans and want to see them politically destroyed.

I dang sure won't vote for one. John Cornyn can whistle for his supper, because he won't get my vote in the general.

i have seen your posts many times before
you are one of many here on FR

win a seat than a moderate R
if you did not realize it already
this conversation is over

The crony capitalist donor base will not permit the federal money spigot to ever be turned off.

What you call moderate, I correctly call liberal.

Have a great life. And remember: If you vote for a liberal republican, you ARE a liberal.

Repeal the 17th:

You are correct in saying that's just you. If it weren't for a rare loss of common sense by Mark Levin, your screen name would also be just you. Ladies and gentlemen of the Pennsyltucky General Assembly: What are the bids for this fine Senate seat? The energy interests open the bidding at $1 billion,Big Pharma bids $2.5 billion! Do I hear $3 billion? The Wall Street Money Mongers bid a breathtaking $10 billion! Do I hear $11 billion? Going once. Going twice. Gone to Dudley Do Right, former Gubnor of Taxachusetts for only $10 billion!!! Ladies and gentlemen: Line up at the Majority Leader's desk for your respective shares of the cash! Next up: An Act Totally Exempting Investment Income from Any Taxation Whatsoever and Shifting the Burden to the Working Saps!

I did LOL at that. Scared the catz and everything.

That was a fine piece of work, and too close to reality.

Someone should do a long winded riff on 'Government to the highest bidder'.

I wonder if Plutarch had anything to say on that subject.....

The choice is between two liberals, not “a D and and R”. If an effort were put forth to get a conservative in there to squeeze those two liberals out, that would be the preferable outcome.

Repeal the 17th:

Not to worry. I don't aspire to make the world safe for the direct auction of Senate seats to the highest bidder.

And NO, I don't believe any of the rank BS that it is better to have the states represented (read: the wealthiest special interests) rather than direct election of US Senators. See Cruz, Ted and Lee, Mike.

You want any old POS with an R next to his or her name elected, no matter how bad, and yet have the gilt-edged gonads to claim that I have given up?????

Forty years ago, we had a name for people like you and it was not a compliment: Rockefeller Republican. Electing a GOP Senate Caucus chock full of spineless trash like Susan Collins, Thad Cockroach, Mitch the Liberals' Bitch, John Cornyn, Lamar!!! Alexander, Bob Corker and their ilk isn't winning anything other than votes to protect Muffie's trust fund at the cost of all the issues that actually matter. No thanks. I'll hold out for a better result.

I also did not and will not vote for any POS vaguely resembling Romney for POTUS and I don't care which communist the Demonrats nominate. If the GOP cannot bring itself to nominate a candidate worth voting for in his or her own right, then the GOP can go pound sand. That is, the GOP might as well hurry up, die and go straight to hell. I am a conservative, not a Republican party hack.

In short, I would not want you to be me either. There are only so many showers I can take on any given day. I did not want Howard Baker or Richard Lugar to be me for the same reasons.
