Harry Reids alma matter is removing his name from a school building after citizens and alumni lobbied the school president and pledged more than $40,000 to the cause. Concerned citizens lobbied Southern Utah University president Scott Wyatt months ago for the change, but he has only now decided to remove the name out of respect for the Senate majority leader, Utahs The Spectrum reports. I didnt want to offend him in any way, he explained. Cedar City Councilman Paul Cozzens told The Specter he received $40,000 in pledges to remove the Nevada senators name in just five days. These people in Nevada do not espouse to Reids political philosophies, he said, and they told me they would not support the university or send any more of their children there
so long as Harry Reids name remained. The school attached Reids name to the Outdoor Center expecting donations from Reid and his friends, The Specter reports, but those donations have not materialized. Apparently torn between his desire for financial support from alumni and his desire for theoretical donations from Reid and his friends, Wyatt decided to remove his name from the Outdoor Center, but attach it to a new building the Harry Reid Center. We have not received any money yet for
that building, Wyatt told The Specter, but added that Harry Reid has a lot of good qualities that could be used to develop a great program and center.

“Translation, Dear Harry, Money talks Bullsh!t walks. Have some of your mob guys donate a few million and we can build you a center.”
Why wait? Just roll up a porta-potty and move the nameplate over to it. I mean they ARE an Outdoor Center for Thought and Contemplation. Just put in a Sears Catalog for reading and “cleaning up.”
You’ve got the wrong guy. Wyatt’s the good guy. See my post: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3198434/posts
“Youve got the wrong guy. Wyatts the good guy. See my post:”
I don’t know I believe I read in the article Brown named the building after reid hoping it would bring donations, grants, etc. and it didn’t. When Wyatt came in he said if reid didn’t cough up some money he would change the name, not only did money not appear but the but the alums said they would quit donating and stop sending their children if the name was not changed. If that’s all true it would make Brown and Wyatt idiots, in my opinion. Did I misread the article, am I missing something?
“Did I misread the article?”
As a matter of fact you did. There’s no one named Brown mentioned anywhere in it.
I’m having a hard time getting my mind around the idea that a person who reads Free Republic would call someone who takes on Harry Reid an idiot. The whole money business was a cover. The previous president (Benson) blew it by naming the center in the first place. The guy mopping up the mess (Wyatt) had to come up with a palatable way to dump the name. For what it’s worth, he’s not accepting the $40,000 the community raised.
Excuse me, Michael Benson. It appeared to me not so much as going after reid as money.
