Reports that Russian troops are intervening directly in the fighting in south-east Ukraine have started to appear in Russian media, despite repeated denials from the Kremlin.
Newspapers and websites are quoting mainly Ukrainian and Western media reports about a Russian invasion, but some have also started to ask whether Moscow is now "fighting a war".
Many Russian social media users, however, say they have no doubt that Ukraine has been "attacked".
They echo sentiments in the Ukrainian twitter-sphere where #russiainvadesukraine, #StopPutin, and #UkraineUnderAttack have become the top trending hashtags.

Your comment is just sad projection from a silly little shill for Putin. You’re devoid of manners as well as the type of virtue that doesn’t support the bully. Take a deep breath and look in the mirror and you’ll see your post is your own self-description.
I wouldn’t be too sure. I suspect that the Russians are going to find that this isn’t going to be as easy as they think. Their historic cruelties to their neighbors are going to be seen through a different set of eyes than those who see Putin as a swell guy. For the neighbors of Russia, Putin’s cruelty and chauvinism are all too familiar.
It’s just rebels, and as king Obama taught us, we’re always supposed to back rebels who want to topple their governments.
Just go lay down little lady, your vapors will pass with time.
I guess you had the vapors. Your previous histrionic insults were deleted. What’s wrong? You cannot defend the tyrant Putin without losing your manners?

Depends on how South and West one goes for this to be a major consideration.
Clearly, invading westerners did not ingratiate themselves to the local population with their brutalities for the brief periods they stuck around in the Ukraine either.
No, it shows that FreeRepublic has standards for discourse that you cannot meet. I know you’re emotional about Putin. Try not to take it personal when I insult him and criticize his policies.
You signed up to FreeRepublic yesterday, right? Is it so you can cheer on Putin?
It's important for us to remember that Putin feels that the end of the communist Soviet Union was a great world tragedy. He isn't the only one who feels that way.
I have learned to accept that there are many people (even some people here in the U.S.) who don't share my view that the USSR was a scar on human history. They miss the USSR and they miss the world communist movement. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of these folks still have pictures of Stalin hanging over their beds.
They don't yet want to accept that Putin is nothing more than a Stalin wannabe and that he isn't even fit to shine Stalin's shoes. He's a loser who is (for now) supported by Russian gangsters.
Nasty troll.
Knock it off.
I agree. For instance, if you read the post of some of the small minded types (like some I’ve seen on this thread) you sense their longing for a renewed Soviet type empire to punish America. They’re really much like the leftist who wanted communism to succeed and to punish the USA. Now, they want Putinism to do it. They make absolutely breathtakingly grandiose claims about the former KGB scum Putin, second generation communist secret policeman, as if everyone is as ignorant of Soviet history as they are. I would say some of these people are like a catamite in a prison keen to suck up to the bully. And it hurts them to hear the bully Putin insulted. They’re like the Obamarobots who cannot accept that Obama is a fool and we can say so.
It's tragic what Putin is doing to the Russian economy today. He's been guilty of gross political/economic malpractice. His apologists explain that he's just a victim of the gangsters who surround and support him, but he deserves much of the responsibility for his failures as a leader.
I mentioned the fact that the invaders from outside of Russia have bone really nasty things. How is that being a cheerleader for Putin?
Unless you are paranoid.
In any case, the Ukraine was invaded from the north, via the Lithuanian-Poles and history shows that was unpopular and was invaded from the South by Muslim Tartars and that was equally unpopular and the German invasion was the most destructive of all since they did their damage in a few short years.
But somehow you want us to think this region only has had problems with Russia.
It is more complex than that.
Right now, I believe I’ll listen to the government and people of Ukraine. After all, they’re not being invaded by Poles, Tartars, and Nazis at the moment. I presume that they know better than anyone else who their historic enemy is, especially after their Homodor.
Hell, one can argue Putin saved America's bacon when he got us not to bomb Assad in Syria that would have allowed ISIS to take over that much quicker.
Putin also endorsed Bush for president. Was he trying to punish America by getting Bush elected over Kerry?
Putin has an odd way of punishing America.
Don’t forget, Putin poses shirtless, kills wildlife with his bare hands, is a Christian, and discovered those ancient Greek artifacts in the Med.
Again, I agree. We’ve got some people whom I call putinistas who never read anything by Solzhenitsyn, who think the Soviet Union was basically just another form of government. They don’t see it for the murderous slave state that it was. The fact that Putin and his daddy were employees of the secret police for the communist party and worked to sustain the Soviet elite strikes them as just another job. These putinistas are moral equivalizers, like the lefties who are always bad mouthing America.
