The day after Mitt Romney opened the door to another possible presidential run, a new poll shows he has a huge lead among likely 2016 Iowa Republican caucus voters.
According to a USA Today/Suffolk University poll released Wednesday, 35 percent of likely GOP caucus voters would vote for the 2012 GOP nominee in 2016. When Romneys name was added to the pool, no other candidate received double-digit votes.

Well, if you were surprised by the last five years, then maybe you should be humble enough now to avoid predictions about the next five years.
We should prepare for an election in 2016.
Ted Cruz - 2016!
You can prepare all you want, the first thing you need to prepare is; no more open primaries.
Does your state have them?
No. I believe that Nevada still has closed primaries.
Its an American tradition. If a candidate gets shafted in an election—wait and run again—Reagan did it, So did Andy Jackson, others have and so should Mittens. You got to admit he was rolled by the Obama Machine and the Liberal Media—remember the debates—the questioners were all Lefties, all the lies, the class war, bullying when Romney was in High School—His poor treatment of his dog—— His wealth was used against him and even his religion. No, he should run, and beat the pants off of any Democrat they set against him. I would recomend Sarah Palin as his VP choice too! Is their better men in the Party? Yes, but, Mitt was cheated. I bet he will turn out to be another Reagan and lead us back. He wouldn’t be doing fundraisers all the time. He would work the job—not abuse it. His election would make the Liberals squel too. Then give him a House and Senate filled with Tea Party GOP—Leader of the Senate Ted Cruz! Then we can see America come back.
Mitt better get that fire in the belly—if he wants to win the nomination! Mitt coulod be an unexpected answer to our problems—just as Teddy Roosenvelt was at the start of the 20th Century. Better he than Hillary or Biden—or Holder.
Then, when Romney decides -- as he likely would -- he wants to take a "bi-partisan" approach to his job, where does that leave a Republican House and Senate filled with Tea Partiers?
But I knew you had a screw loose when you started attacking people for not voting for a pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-amnesty, socialized medicine, big government liberal.

It is not in the Romney genes to get anything serious done with the military which is a strange and alien institution to all of the Romneys.
There have been sleeper cells here since before 9/11 and the best that the government can do is to keep close surveillance. At minimum, Romney is no better at that than anyone else and not as capable as many.
All the stuff in your second paragraph would happen just as likely under Willard only less competently. ISIS would run wild under Willard who has no military background whatsoever. That includes the beheadings of innocent American hostages. Check out the John Milius film The Wind and the Lion for how Teddy Roosevelt handled such matters. Sean Connery as the Raisulli/Brian Keith as TR.
You seem a lot more surprised than I am by the contemporary goings on.
It is increasingly likely that future administrations will include moslems, the question is what kind if moslems? Obozo's BIG problem is being an anti-American anti-colonialist type as inherited from his father. They are verrrrry nasty in their resentment of the USA and caucasian European powers. Since the nomination of George McGovern, you may take for granted that ANY Demonrat regime will be loaded with reds. The Demonrat Party is a red party now and has been for the last 42 years.
We need to reshuffle the political deck at this point in history. The Right needs to jettison the spoiled rich brat class and the Junior Leaguers and the trust fund babies, i.e. dump the Romneys and Wall Street and K Street and the US Chambers of Crony Capitalism and create a brutally populist party of the Right. Reach out to blacks and Hispanics on moral conservatism and the American Dream. Create a new coalition: military, veterans, regular churchgoers, rural folks, folks who work with their hands for a living, Social Security recipients, Sarah Palin fans, Ted Cruz fans, Rolling Thunder, pro-lifers, pro-gun folks, pro-marriage people, hard Catholics and Orthodox, Southern Baptists, Westminster Presbyterians, Good News Methodists, Anglo-Catholics, ethnics, etc. The Republican base is shot because the RNC and GOP-E "leadership" have alienated most of it.
Make the party of the Right a populist Jeffersonian/Jacksonian party and it will prosper along with the US that it will govern. Let it stumble along as a Hamiltonian party of, by and for the privileged and it will die as surely as its Federalist and Whig predecessors and more promptly than you imagine. That is my explanation of who would enact my principles instead of the tired old abused GOP base which has been smothered with mountains of money by the elitists who run and ruin the GOP.
I have no doubt the GOP elite are hoping for Jeb or Mitt to be nominatd in 2016.
That is one reason why it really irritates me to read all the Rick Perry is a RINO posts. He’s not a RINO he is a strong states rights guy and we need to get back to that. He is also a proponent of cutting the size of government.
If you will notice all of the GOP elites are missing in action in defending Rick Perry on this insane indictment out in Texas. Where’s the outrage from Reince Priebus? He is the head of the RNC. Not a peep that I know of. They know Rick is not a RINO.
We need to keep Perry and Cruz as possibles for 2016 to counter the likely GOP elite candidates.
“Milt does not have the fire in his belly. Had Obama on the ropes, and failed to k.o. Milt as a candidate = Hilary as President.”
If you don’t have the fire, you will never have the fire. That isn’t a learned trait.
Oh, Mitt had the fire in the belly, when he was running against the other GOP candidates.
His sole mission was to block a conservative from getting the nomination. He had no intention of winning the general.
I once heard that in order to get back to the center after being taken to far in one directn is to be taken just as far in th other direction.
Cruz can do that. Romney can’t. Then again, they might be pushing Romney so he can preside over the rat gains for a few years until they can accuse him of screwing up the country and then taking the whitehouse back.
Yes, I think so. Redux 2008.
We learned a lot about ourselves, as a unified force with clout, and discovered in the end that we had neither, sadly.
Outside a party-like apparatus, our personal will and passions always rule, naturally breeding disunity, lack of inluential force, and no election clout. We splinter all our tools; money, support, action and voice, to our own critical disadvantage.
I don’t know how it can ever be overcome, either.
We need to reshuffle the political deck at this point in history..... and create a brutally populist party of the Right. Reach out to blacks and Hispanics on moral conservatism and the American Dream. Create a new coalition: military, veterans, regular churchgoers, rural folks, folks who work with their hands for a living, Social Security recipients, Sarah Palin fans, Ted Cruz fans, Rolling Thunder, pro-lifers, pro-gun folks, pro-marriage people, hard Catholics and Orthodox, Southern Baptists, Westminster Presbyterians, Good News Methodists, Anglo-Catholics, ethnics, etc. ...
Out of many inspiring and excellent posts, Black Elk, this one really stands out, and that’s saying something because ALL your posts are ... well, reading them is like restocking my intellectual ammo box for the next battle with Republican leftists.
Finny, I agree with you, all the way.
Conservatives running on the Republican ticket is a ticket to nowhere’s-ville.
Primaried out and spent, the conservative candidates divide their own conservative base among themselves, and then comes the late, Big Money, being timed and released by the Establishment to crush the leading conservative(s) candidate(s), resulting in the $$$RINO win.
As for Rick, his bono fidis as a conservative has already some wobbly history in Texas, having wondered off the conservative reservation on Guardasil for girls through the schools, his donor friendly connections to the manufacturer, and then
the Mexican highway “corridor” controversy and the not very conservative private land gobble it would entail.
Both of these events were legislatve, bypassing the screaming electorate. To his redeeming credit Rick was responsive to the public outcry and both moves for big government died forthwith.
Rick is now hurt by his own campaign connections and consultation with the Mississippi Mafia figure, Haley Barbour and Company as his prominent advisers. Barbour is the viscious RINO dirty tricks artist now proven to be the enemy of conservatives and conservatives. Perry and Barbour both use southern charm and bravado, alternating between their similar,”Aw shucks”, “humble me, religious style.
Palling around with thug Barbour, in any fashion, is not a conservative thing to do.
What “conservative” does that?
Oops, on my last paragraph..
conservative = conservatism
