Something definitely feels off kilter this summer. Direct sunlight feels extremely hot this summer, a lot hotter than previously even warmer (temperature wise) summers. Even if the temperature is only 70, walking in direct sunlight becomes intolerable after only a few blocks. I can actually feel it burning my back through my shirt.

Hmmm, banned compounds still being flushed into the atmosphere.
A certain 5-letter word comes to mind.
Starting with “C”.

Banned worldwide? I would check in China....

They know that holes in the ozone show up from time to time. Nothing mentioned here about how the ozone is naturally replenished.

Wouldn’t gaseous carbon tetrachloride be quite a bit more dense than air?

Has anyone considered volcanoes as a source of CCl4?

How much Cl uptake might there be from evaporation of sea water? Perhaps measured in ppm or ppb but there’s a heck of a lot of ocean surface area.

CCl4 - great stuff for cleaning substrates, at least that’s what I used to use it for. Look for a country that does a lot of electronics manufacturing (and doesn’t much care about environmental issues). Yeah, that “C” word mentioned above comes to mind.

Almost all the chlorine in the oceans is in the ionic form of Cl-. This form has very low volatility, hence the formation of brine pools and salt flats.

I've noticed that too.
However, anything out of NASA on the subject is probably related more to budget concerns than any intentional real science.

My thoughts exactly. Check that society that views IP theft and cheating as business as usual.

Since we periodically here of companies illegally dumping toxins here, imagine how much we don’t hear about here. Then imagine what we don’t know about countries like China.
The results of the study should shock no one.
