Uzis aren't that great of a weapon. The reputation stems mainly from one battle that was basically close quarters trench warfare. Small sub-machine gun in narrow confines versus an AK-47 rifle in same. It was the better tool for the application.

It's hard to control. In fact, about five years ago, a 12 yo, iirc, was at a gun event, and got his MD father to allow him to fire one. The kid lost control and managed to fatally shoot himself in the head.
