my procreating days are well behind me,
but i get your drift...
I think we “kids” are missing a golden opportunity, to re-tell the stories of our youth, as told to us or remembered by us, from our grandparents and relatives that lived through not only the depression but WW2 etc..... Many things my grandparents did not tell me...but there are enumerable things that I asked about, that were answered by either a gentle hug, or a twinkle in the eye of my grandfather.......FOR INSTANCE.....when my dad was a kid, he and his brothers and sisters would get the left over crepe paper from the drug store, when they changed their displays....the kids took the paper and colored sand in various colors and layered them in jars as “art” and sold them if they could...........FORWARD 70 years....my dad taught my sons how to color sand and make layered sand in jars ...Life was not easier then by any means,...but it SEEMS as if it was simpler....in that FAMILY and creating your own memories came first. Ya think we can ever get that back?
I know you know....and with all due respect...you are gonna lose your “drift” too, if your rudder gets busted :-)
LOL (thanks for the joy of the laugh!!! :-))
my mama was born in 1920 and is still alive and kicking
oh...the stories she has told me...
i have tried my best to pass them along to my kids and grandkids
WRITE THEM DOWN OR RECORD THEM!!!!!!!!!
I am seriousl...with the current arseholes we have in DC....we have to retain OUR history before that arsehole changes it!
Take the time to WRITE or record your stories! It will be a wonderful Christmas gift to your children!!!!!!!!!!
I remember stories like that, too, from Mom’s and Dad’s Families.
Mom was RN 2nd Lt in Women’s Army Nurse Corp, and she sent shipments of TP and other things back to both families, which the Army was going to get rid of.
Dad (pltn sgt) was recovering from Battle of The Bulge wounds, so he didn’t have access to the quartermaster stores, but he had lots of Army clothing shipped back for the families to replace their worn and patched clothes.
When he got healthy, he worked as a carpenter, electrician, plumber building homes in York - which I see everyday in East York - for returning vets, making good money for the family, and then went to PSU, Syracuse, Columbia and Rutgers on GI Bill (Chemical Engineering) to become top chemist and rose to VP Mgmt Allied Chemical for 46yrs.
He was all the families’ first multi-millionaire, back in 70s. A cousin was second millionaire. I was third multi-millionaire in family at 39.
My granddad was in the Battle of the Bulge as well..and I have such respect for you mom..GOD love her...she was a trail blaze for us irreverant nurses to come during Viet Nam......I smile just knowing you, FRiend :-) Thank you for that
</smile>
And another thing....please be happy...because aint NO amount of millionairre cash can make ya heppy.....You just need to BE happy :-)
There are pockets of it remaining, but 90% it is gone, as the generations scatter, die-off, find other interests. It’s truly part of Americana - who and what we are. But it’s slowly, sadly becoming extinct.
Well then, save what YOu KNOW, NOW :-) Trust me, SO many will appreciate your efforts!
Right, like a Mexican can read that! (eye roll) ;-)
No post, just needed to cleran up what ever the hell happened to my Tagline space....
After 22 years abstinance........I am going to the state fair tomorrow...I am hoping I can see Al Franken “ON A STICK!”

UmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmI am leary of eating ANYTHING on a stick....if ya get my drift........ ;-) LOL
I am only going because I am a damned good friend...I promised my girlfriend I would go (the bitch wants us to leave at 0600 to get there “early” OH GOODY!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing says friendshil like walking though chicken sh*t and horse apples together........but yeah,...I am a REALLY good friend :-)
