Germany’s Angela Merkel has said Ukraine is free to “go to” Russia’s “Eurasian Union”, amid signs of a new willingness to make peace with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to German public broadcaster ARD on Sunday (24 August), the German chancellor said her visit to Kiev on Saturday was designed to prepare for peace talks between Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko and Putin in Minsk on Tuesday, but warned the public not to expect a “breakthrough”.

That's certainly what the headline sounded like, but her actual statement sounded perfectly reasonable. “And if Ukraine says ‘we are going to the Eurasian Union now’, the European Union would never make a big conflict out of it, but would insist on a voluntary decision,”

You read passed the misleading headline and got it right.

Merkel was simply saying that the EU isn't forcing the Ukraine against their will into the EU.

Germany is closer to the situation than we are. Ukraine is not US problem. If we don’t pay more attention to our border and our own tyrannical government, there won’t be enough left of our country to even have a foreign policy.

Ukraine is not US problem.

This isn't about Ukraine. This is about the USSR 2.0 which is a problem for every civilized nation on earth.

If we don’t pay more attention to our border...

Yes,we must do that too.We are a nation that can multitask when we put our minds to it.
