If you want a straight and unvarnished view about the effectiveness of “bombing them back to the stone age” talk to and read the autobiographies of American airmen held captive in North Vietnam 1964-1973.
The attitude of their abusive guards before LINEBACKER TWO began and the morning after the first night’s bombing are mirror images of each other.
In Paris the North Vietnamese negotiation team walked away from the peace talks in early December 1972. Three weeks later they were begging to come back to the peace talks.
Guess a week’s worth of heavy aerial bombardment causes many people to rethink their attitudes.
A personal aside: Too bad it took the American political class with the support of the LMSM 7 years (1965 -1972) to understand this. Thank you LBJ, RSM, ABC, CBS, NBC, and others.
