Have at it:
The teacher offered several questions to be asked, including:
From the picture below:
*What are the similarities between the events?
*Why did the people in Boston dress up as Native Americans?
*What stereotypes does that show?
*What is institutional racism and how should it be addressed?
*Why is the image on the right called a party?
*The event on the right has been mythologized and treated as action by heroes. Do you think the event on the left will be?
Hmmm, I’ll try.
*What are the similarities between the events?
- One group is stealing for personal use, the other is destroying to protest a recently implemented government taxation policy. A policy which was imposed without the consent of the governed in violation of English Parliamentary rules regarding colonies.
*Why did the people in Boston dress up as Native Americans?
- To punctuate their rejection of English political authority and disassociation with same.
*What stereotypes does that show?
- That Native Americans were not subjects of the Crown.
*What is institutional racism and how should it be addressed?
- The institution racism was that Native Americans were not English subjects but Colonials were and they disproportionately bore the yolk of English rule. Solution: Revolution and independence from England.
*Why is the image on the right called a party?
- It was a celebration of the forceful rejection of English taxation and import controls.
*The event on the right has been mythologized and treated as action by heroes. Do you think the event on the left will be?
- No. It was thievery for personal consumption in no way comparable to the Boston Tea Party. It was not representative or reparative of government political, taxation and import policies.
