Researchers say they have found more than 500 bubbling methane vents on the seafloor off the US east coast.
The unexpected discovery indicates there are large volumes of the gas contained in a type of sludgy ice called methane hydrate.
There are concerns that these new seeps could be making a hitherto unnoticed contribution to global warming.
The scientists say there could be about 30,000 of these hidden methane vents worldwide.
Previous surveys along the Atlantic seaboard have shown only three seep areas beyond the edge of the US continental shelf.

The Earth is farting. Sue her to stop it now!
The point I am making is that your correction of my statements is incorrect, and you are too ..... to know it.
Are you claiming methane vents, and the production of methane hydrates does NOT occur far from subduction zones?
You have been pinged because of your interest in environmentalism, alarmist wackos, mainstream media doomsday hype, and other issues pertaining to global warming.

Methane bad! Arrest the ocean! < /EPA Mode >
Blow up the entire earth, it’s the only way we can stop this insanity.
It can’t just contribute to the global climate, oh no!
It has to contribute to Globull warming!
Of course...

I didn’t read the article. I wonder how many of these “new” “leaks” are new in the sense that they have just recently opened up. Or “new” in that this year they expanded their survey area with better equipment.
And even the term “leakage” implies a bad thing. But of coarse a natural seep doesn’t fit the man-made global warming.
Hmm. Interesting theory. the earth has a lot of feed-back loops. Of course the hydrates releasing in a catastrophic is one of the theories behind the huge Permian(?) extinction millions of years ago.
Yep - hopefully Japan will make great progress on drilling them to release the pressure s-l-o-w-l-y!
