Like a few warning shots up in the air. If you shoot in the air, the round will come down and possibly injure an innocent yards or miles away. Warning shots should be fired into the ground, which won't be a problem unless you hit an underground natural gas line.

Warning shots should be fired into the ground, which won't be a problem unless you hit an underground natural gas line. Which is why you should aim at your foot, so that your shoe and foot deflect the bullet and keep it from possibly hitting a gas line, or water line, or gopher. You never know if PETA might be snooping over your fence.
