People just don't want to work anymore. All the time people are pissing and moaning, caterwauling that the "jobs are going overseas" and that we are in a "burger flipping" economy. But that is all B.S. There are literally millions of well-paying jobs available in the U.S. but people just aren't showing up to take them.

I've been a hiring manager at my company for years and our company is starved, STARVED, for good talent. But we have a hard time filling our positions, many of which pay into six figures.

I am so sick of hearing about "no jobs available" and if that poster shows up who's constantly harping about "bring the jobs back from China", I think I'm going to electronically strangle him.

It is the awful regulations.

Trucking is absolutely saturated in regulations that make it almost impossible to be a trucker or run a trucking company.

My daughter works at a trucking center, and she was telling me how it was changing. Many Muslims, Indians, and Mexicans driving trucks now.

Part of the numberous excuses government will put forth to have us paying 300% more for goods like Europe does.
Taxation through purchases is about to happen because government hates to not have money (which is power).

There is no trucker shortage. The is a shortage of firms willing to pay a reasonable wage for the work provided.

Many years ago the major carriers used a relay system so everybody was local. They had a terminal in our town in a back lot at the truck stop. I knew a guy whose dad was a driver. He made the same run every time Fort Smith to Amarillo and back I think. Made the run, got a rest, turned around, rested at home and did it again.

He had a pretty good job for many years. Then it all changed and they ended that system. Nothing but long haul and out for weeks at a time.

I guess FEDEX and others like them with no sleeper cabs are regional driver runs?

Illegals will do the job AND they will have the added benefit of not having to follow the regulations all the legal drivers have to follow.

Let me add that the oil industry is in high demand for truck drivers right now and they’re coming from all over to work in the Permian Basin. 50 to 60 hours a week and go home every night.

Autonomous vehicles are going to end the trucking industry, I’m afraid.

I always believed that after retiring that over the road trucking would be a viable option just to keep me busy for ten or so years.

This coming March 2015 I will only renew my CA. cl 3 and drop my motorcycle 1 and commercial licenses.

I sold my GL1800 for cheap and no longer want to drive trucks.

My dream is gone.
