A woman is out of a job today because of a violent Facebook post she made about the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.
"The police need to just start mowing them down with machine guns, purge them," she wrote, apparently in reference to the people protesting the shooting death of Michael Brown.
But she does have freedom of speech on the Facebook
Everything is racists now.
Little newbie... You have no Constitutionally protected Right to “protest” in advocacy of lynching someone before all the facts in the case are even known.
Go back to DU where you belong.
Amen. And not having the intelligence not to post on FaceBook.
I know.
Freedom of speech has nothing to do with getting fired for being an ass. The First Amendment protects you from having the government silence you - it says nothing about your boss...
Yes, you do. As long as their assembly remains peaceful, the protesters have the same freedom of speech that you do, whether you like it or not. You don’t seem to understand the Bill of Rights.
When they are stealing other people’s property and burning other people’s property, I can’t stretch peaceably assemble far enough to cover that. Standing around shouting and cussing, yes. Stealing and burning, no.
She’s welcome to sue them for wrongful termination.
I gotta agree with Daley on that one.
Like I said, that’s two different groups of people in Ferguson right now. One is the criminal element, i.e. the out-of-town thugs that are looting and stealing. The other is the peaceful protesters who have repeatedly joined arms and walked down the street as a human chain to drive the thugs and gangbangers out. We should be proud of them, because they self-organized to drive out the scum. Their Constitutional rights stand because they haven’t broken any laws.
As an ex-HR professional, what YOU do in your own free time, is YOUR business and I have no legal right to fire you for something you may have said on the internet..........
As long as your job is that of an in-house employee and not an outside representative of the company with a public profile, then you can say and do what you want.......
This lady will successfully sue for discrimination and either settle monetarily or get her job back with pay........I guarantee it!
Been there, saw that!
Sorry no dice. Supreme Court has ruled that government employees have some free speech rights, but this isn't one of them. This is an HR issue, plain and simple.
Nobody is preventing her from speaking. Her employer just decided not to continue to employ her. That's their right. And by the way, urging mass murder is a pretty ridiculous thing for an employee to do. I'd have fired her myself if she worked for me.
correct, but that scares people. they think being nice and/or being reasonable will vanquish the evil and racism in this country.
and the racism I refer to is the real definition. like knockout game, murder due to color of skin, and attacking someone physically anyone who dare speak the truth.
What’s a Face Book?
I don't trust one thing about this government.
You do not have a Right to make terroristic threats against a, potentially, innocent man.
No need to apologize. Just go away.
Things should be scarier. We lead far too soft a Life.
you post the obvious, but I wonder if you or many of the other posters here have any wisdom regarding where matters like this lead.
Hint - it’s obvious for anyone who has been paying attention.
