Bay Area billionaire's climate-change ads leave fact-checkers cold
San Jose Mercury ^ | 08/21/2014 | Josh Richman

Bay Area billionaire Tom Steyer's blitz against candidates who are soft on climate change is underway in seven states, but some prominent fact-checking groups say he's emitting enough hot air to melt a few glaciers.

Negative reviews from watchdogs like PolitiFact, FactCheck.org and the Washington Post are dogging one of the nation's biggest political donors, a former hedge fund manager who ditched his ties to fossil fuels and presented himself as a transparent antidote to the conservative Koch brothers' semi-clandestine funding network.

When this place finally collapses, would it be beyond dreams to categorize these type individuals as enemies of the state and give them the option of leaving or leaving the planet?

It’s not about the facts, it about the seriousness of the charge!

I wonder what he really did to piss off “the powers that be.” There is no way the Merc would be on him like this unless they were told to do so.

More remarkable is that this leftist fish wrap would actually report it.

In this brave new world, facts matter little; it’s feelings that are important. He’s paying for influence.

Steyer is a Putz masquerading as a hero. In our part of PA, most of our neighbors who have backyard pools (mainly the above ground economical type) are using them until the end of September and sometimes even October.

This year, they are already closing them. It has been a short swimming season following the coldest winter since the last time the Pirates were in the World Series.

Steyer's spokesman ... is quick to defend all of NextGen's ads: "...we'll continue to keep the pressure on the anti-science candidates"

Every NextGen ad cited in the article was shown to be false. In progressive-land, lies are science.

The thing is, his ads (here, anyway) have nothing to do with global warming. He’s funding attack ads on Cory Gardner that mostly are the tired old “war on women” meme. He knows if he took the globull warming angle he wouldn’t get anywhere.

I don't think people get it.

This is an investment.

If you own partnership interests in multiple "green technology" companies, those companies can make a ton of very safe, risk-free money if they get government subsidies.

Those government subsidies come from politicians, who themselves come from election campaigns.

These advertisements are one method of influencing election outcomes to ensure that the right people are elected, who will vote for the subsidies, which will provide rivers of taxpayer cash.

He is spending money on advertisements that he believes he will get back easily when the subsidies come rolling in.
