Homosexuality was indeed classified as a mental disorder, up until the American Psychiatric Assocation declassified it in 1973. The American Psychological Association followed suit in 1975. This was done for purely political reasons.
While I believe that homosexuality, transgenderism and all other forms of paraphilia represent mental disorders, they should be treated with compassion and not scorn. The ones who should be treated with scorn are the political operatives in the medical and media industries who are trying to convince people that it is normal and even worthy of celebration. Homosexuals should be given as much consideration and opportunities as normal folk, but within reason. For example, in the same way that a schizophrenic should not be an air traffic controller, a homosexual should not be a scoutmaster.
Amen.
“While I believe that homosexuality, transgenderism and all other forms of paraphilia represent mental disorders”
I’d call that an educated opinion, myself.
“they should be treated with compassion and not scorn.”
Should, yes, but man is man, and effeminate boys are going to take the occasional abuse. I know of an instance, decades ago, where an effeminate boy was bullied into fellating older boys.
I wasn’t able to protect him, and to be honest, I didn’t really understand what was going on. I was able to protect myself, but I rather imagine that boy developed same-sex attraction disorder in later life.
“The ones who should be treated with scorn are the political operatives in the medical and media industries who are trying to convince people that it is normal and even worthy of celebration.”
IMO, scorn is inadequate for them.
“Homosexuals should be given as much consideration and opportunities as normal folk, but within reason. For example, in the same way that a schizophrenic should not be an air traffic controller, a homosexual should not be a scoutmaster.”
Ah, a refreshing breath of common sense.
