Kind of like making a distinction between Dearborn and River Rouge. Neither are technically Detroit but more of a zip code designation with a different city government and minor differences in local ordinances. You don’t notice any changes traveling from one town to the next and most people just call them part of Detroit.
To me, a different place is a place where I get on the freeway and travel through rural areas to get to. Even that is shaky. I grew up in a place known as Hanover Horton which is 2 towns separated by about 5 miles of rural land but share a common school district and are both in Hanover township. I grew up in Hanover but people in Horton were locals.
