I love my wife, but we get on each other's nerves when we're together 24/7. She likes to correct me on my many shortcomings, and she has the extra time on vacation to recall past mistakes dating back 30 years. lol
Realizing that, I've incorporated small changes into vacation itineraries, such as limiting drive time to 10 hours, preferably less. That allows for a trip to the pool, or just having a relaxing meal.
Last year, my then 11YO son and I took a 2 week road trip (my wife took her vacation with her family to Orlando, I'd been there & done that. My daughter concurred, saying she didn't need the drama). As we entered Roswell, our last leg before heading for home, my son said, "Dad, I love Mom, but this trip's been fun, just you and me."
IOW, sometimes guys just need to get away from it all.
