I had always assumed that Fort Stewart was named after J.E.B. Stewart or is it Stuart?

General Early was one of those coarse, profane soldiers who cursed constantly. Due to the influence of Lee and Jackson, he ended the war a devout Christian.

That would be James Ewell Brown “Jeb” Stuart

Early wasn’t alone in that experience. There’s a couple of books about revival that swept through the southern army. This article mentions them at the end of the piece:
