EDGARTOWN, Mass. Senior White House aides have made repeated, urgent phone calls to Gov. Jay Nixon of Missouri, to state police officials and to civil rights leaders in recent days as President Obamas administration becomes more deeply involved in trying to maintain peace in Ferguson and to ensure an independent investigation of the fatal shooting of an unarmed African-American teenager by a white police officer.
White House officials also said Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who is the administrations most outspoken voice on racial issues, had been in frequent touch with the governor and State Highway Patrol in Missouri as angry protests continued to simmer there. Mr. Holder is scheduled to provide a formal briefing to the president in Washington on Monday, officials said. Both men were returning Sunday from Marthas Vineyard, where they had been vacationing for the past week.
Mr. Holder announced Sunday that a federal medical examiner would conduct an independent autopsy of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot Aug. 9 in Ferguson by Officer Darren Wilson. Officials said the decision was the result of extraordinary circumstances in the case, and was part of a civil rights investigation the F.B.I. is conducting.
The order for an additional autopsy may also help the Obama administration to reassure Mr. Browns family and others who are suspicious of the states investigation and are eager for an independent inquiry, something that Mr. Holder promised the family personally.
Brian Fallon, a Justice Department spokesman, said the department would also consider the results of the first, state-conducted autopsy. There was no indication that federal investigators saw any problems with the local examination. The family has also had a private autopsy conducted.

“By what authority does the federal government insert itself in to an issue that is clearly a local/state matter?”
The usual cover story is that it is conducting a federal civil rights investigation.
There are two sets of laws at play here; state law and federal law.
Unconfirmed, but if true, it might explain the bullets being “scattered”.

That means plenty of time to manufacture the story they want.
That also means plenty of time to get more cash for Democrat politicians.
That means they will keep the story in play to create a narrative that suits the party line of Democrat's. Maybe they can pull of a Travon Martin, Rodney King ending with an officer in jail one one way or another.
REMAKE!
Lesson learned: Riot and you get the President to personally respond.
So how long is it going to take? They shot, autopsied and buried Osama Bin Laden in 24 hrs.
Yes.
But the way it is supposed to work is, the feds only get involved in a local/state case if it appears the locality/state permitted or perpetrated civil rights violations during its handling of the case.
In this instance, the state has not even concluded its preliminary investigation, never mind reaching any conclusions.
It’s acrime wihin the State of Missouri. That makes the Federal government in the “junior position” to the State. The FBI can help and maybe do a good job, but they ARE NOT in charge. Police power resides in the individual states, that’s ConLaw 101.
So holder is going to have an INDEPENDENT autopsy. There is an untended joke right there.
It has no authority. It has power, usurped at gunpoint.
A civil rights investigation? Already?
That’s the result holder wants
...plenty of proof of that!
Yet, the public stands back, eats triple portion menus, slurps away on refill drinks, buys flat panel TVs and the MSM demonizes the police.
We are going downhill, fast...
The DOJ will find that the bullets that were fired into Brown were wearing KU Klux Klan hoods and used the N-word...
However many autopsies are done, “the gentle giant” will be voting in November.
Three autopsies on this guy. He’ll be a pile of glop by the time they are through. All for political expediency.
Everybody is talking about bullet holes. How about what he was jacked up on.
Why not put the autopsy out to bid?
“But the way it is supposed to work is, the feds only get involved in a local/state case if it appears the locality/state permitted or perpetrated civil rights violations during its handling of the case.”
The Feds contention is that the shooting itself constituted a “possible civil rights” violation. That’s all they need. They can conduct a simultaneous investigation while the state/local authorities conduct theirs.
