FERGUSON, Mo. Unrest returned to the streets of this St. Louis suburb early Saturday as hundreds of demonstrators, angered by the shooting death of an unarmed African-American teenager by a police officer, engaged in a standoff with the police that was punctuated by threats and a new round of denunciations of law enforcement practices.
The confrontation, the first serious one since the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Thursday assumed responsibility for security operations here, ended at about 4 a.m. when the authorities, prompted by the gradual dispersal of demonstrators, pulled back to their nearby command post. The Associated Press reported that one law enforcement official had been injured overnight.
The unrest capped an extraordinary day of events that has roiled this community since the teenager, Michael Brown, 18, was fatally shot by a police officer last Saturday while walking home from a convenience store with a friend.
On Friday, the police chief of Ferguson, Thomas Jackson, said at a news conference that the officer who shot Mr. Brown was Darren Wilson, who has served on the Ferguson force for four years and in another local department for two years and who had no disciplinary charges. Officer Wilson, who is white, has been placed on leave, and his location is unknown.
But the release of his name was overshadowed by the simultaneous announcement that Mr. Brown was a suspect in a robbery at a convenience store shortly before his death, leading to questions about the timing of the announcement and the motives behind it. Surveillance videotapes released by the Ferguson police appeared to show Mr. Brown shoving a store clerk aside as he took a box of cigarillos.

But because the rioters oh excuse me protesters are one of the favored lib groups, their concerns must be met with charity and compassion. Somebody did them wrong. More programs and giveaways are needed. (smirk)
My how things have changed. I remember when Corpus Christie had the hurricane, in the 50’s. After the hurricane, there were rioting and looting. The Texas governor made this announcement; “BY MORNING, ALL LOOTERS AND RIOTERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT”. There were no more looting and rioting.
Aren’t these the same ‘stand down” orders the border patrol has given from the Obama administration as to enforcing the border?
I’m wondering what is taking so long for the media to start rebranding the rioters by calling them “disenfranchised African Americans”.
With any luck, this will make him radioactive in MO politics, whether in regard to a Senate or White House run.
Was that photo released by the white house?
The Highway Patrol backed off. If I owned the business I’d sue the crap out of the governor and the state for not doing their jobs.
That black guy from CNN was interviewing rioters and sympathizing with them, even with the evidence now that the criminal / robber that got killed was caught on camera stealing cigars and shoving the store owner. Disgraceful that the rioters are getting a pass, just like the illegal alien cockroaches crossing the border are. THIS is Obamas America and this is what is making Michelle Obama proud to be an American for the first time. Strangely though she is living above the fray but I wonder if she would be saying this if she were rubbing elbows with the rioters on a daily basis.
If Americans nowadays had any b*lls, we’d have frogmarched Mr. and Mrs. Obam out of the White House and FORCED them to rub elbows with the little darlings ....long ago. Instead, we get to sit idly by and watch all this destruction.
Yeah the blame the police tactics and equipment stuff is just a scapegoat du jour packaged and marketed by liberals to be more appealing to libertarian leaners.
They say militarization of police is the cause, okay then what was the cause of riots in the 60s 70s 80s 90s?
The answer of course is miltariazation hasn't caused any of this. This is about black culture and the way it fosters, encourages and enables violent criminal behavior and the mindset within it of hating the police.
Yep police tactics caused gentle giant Mike Brown to want to steal cigars (To feed his family no doubt)
And police tactics caused him to shove the guy in the store trying to stop him from stealing them. (cause after all this is what everybody does before they go off to college)
And those tactics caused him to walk down the middle of the street
And those tactics caused him of course to attack a police officer-- and try to take his gun and kill him with it-- an officer who was not militarized at all but just doing his job.
National Review has been bat shi- crazy since it was taken over by the soft left. Use to have a subscription years ago and canceled when (whats his name, ) retired. (dag nabit I forgot his name. Over a decade ago...
Let’s not use military wannabe cops to do a job the citizenry should properly do themselves.
John O'Sullivan?
If my memory of the weather radar is correct, a steady rain began...
It’s not about militarization. Further militarization would not help either. It’s about the unwillingness of the police to actually open fire on looters and arsonists.
He was a contributor, but the guy that started the National Review decades ago....dag nabit getting old sucks. I can in my mind see his face, but the name will reach consciouness in about 2 hours...LOL

“Print, video and photo-journalists were all repeatedly and aggressively threatened and harassed when attempting to photograph or videotape any of the looting or property destruction...”
Funniest bit: “The Washington Posts Wesley Lowery
[The whiner who pestered the cop ay McDonald’s] reported on Twitter that one looter just threatened to pull knife on him and other reporter outside a liquor store that was being cleaned of inventory.”
LOL!
Bless your heart thats him....William F. Buckley. I think he has passed on, but put out a good magazine way back when...TY GG
