A large police SWAT team showed up to a peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri and the scene is getting increasingly tense, reports Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly, who is currently on the ground.
Soon after the team of more than 70 officers came on the scene, they told protesters they needed to leave the area and that "this [was] not open for discussion," Reilly tweeted. MSNBC reporter Trymain Lee tweeted that police told the crowd, "Go home, return to your vehicles. The protesters responded, "Mike can't go home!"
"Your right to assembly is not being denied," the police said later over a loudspeaker.

Seems to me riot police used to use shields and fire hoses, not M4s and mounted weapons. There is a reason the military and police are separate—when we deploy it’s to kill enemies; when they deploy it’s to protect the public?
Thugs, wannabes, and cowards are a bad combination, and in this situation, those terms can be equally used on both sides. May God save this country, though we scarce deserve it.
This is playing out in virtually the same way liberals think about our foreign policy.
When this mob attacks the police, loots and destroys property and is then shot at with the resulting injuries and possibly deaths, they (liberals and the mob) will blame the police. They will say that the mere presence of the police is what provoked the mob.
There is virtually no difference between the liberal thought process above and what they think of our military presence in “hot-spots” around the world. They think it’s our, or Bush’s, military involvement in Iraq/Afghanistan that has created the hatred coming from Islamic crazies.
Protesters converging on SWAT truck.
You might if a member of the Tea Party was murdered by the cops.
Just wait until the sun goes down.
Tweeps calling for tea party militia to come protect them from the police. LOL.
Hopefully the police forces will nip these riots in the bud before they call in the NG, they’re dealing with rioters now and they’re not peaceful Tea Party protests.
In the 1964 Watts riots the Commanding General of the NG was interviewed on live TV and was asked if automatic weapons had been used by his troops, he said absolutely not. They then showed a filmed clip of a troop firing a 30 cal browning air cooled mounted on a Jeep M38 4X4.
I’m not making a judgement call because in reality the NG ended those riots, too bad the riots weren’t ended sooner.
true
You might see some push back, but it probably wouldn’t be in the form of looting.
Hopefully the pastor and his band can keep the crowd calm.
Police allowed the church group through the line to set up for revival.
I’m not sure just who to root for in this case.
Police ordering crowd to back up 25 feet.
Yes, I do not like that either. If their intent is to shoot to kill, the weapon choices are ideal. Otherwise... What? What is their intent?
Why not call in an airstrike? Laugh, but who would have thought that they’d have what they now have, 20-30 years ago?
Gun sales at local gun shop near Ferguson quadrupled in past two days.
It’s beginning to look like a classic ‘pressure cooker’ technique.
Squeeze them in until they pop like a zit. Then react with force.
I care nothing for these protestors, but this scene of this militarized police is disturbing.
