Very nice summary, Talisker. Not just for Williams but for liberals in general. Conservatives are unhappy at the loss of freedoms. Liberals get everything they desire and become more unhappy.

Happiness isn't really a liberal/conservative thing, not at all.
Its far more connected to attitude than political-leanings (not to say that those leanings don't tend to impact attitude).

The irony is that liberals claim to love everybody, but in fact they want big government and oppressive laws because they do not, in fact, love anybody. They don't even like each other. So the only resource they see as effective is brute force, but they don't want to admit it. So thy preach love while voting for tyranny.

Conservatives actually DO trust in the human spirit, and so believe that by reducing government interference (not to mention tyranny), people will be free to be what they want to be, and will naturally be tolerant and law abiding and caring for one another because of their understanding of their interdependence. Yet conservatives know that such beneficial human behavior can only be found under the stress of having to perform, of having to learn and work and strive.

Liberals mock this as tyranny, and then impose real tyranny when they steal and hand out money to their followers who promptly refuse to work or live in a civilized manner.

Yes, there are serious imbalances in conservatism, especially in refusing to see that corporations should not be treated as people, otherwise the entire work ethic and positive feedback for competition falls apart. But this is an adjustment of a basically correct philosophy. Liberals, on the other hand, want to throw the entirety of human civilization into the garbage, proclaim happiness by fiat, and just steal everything they need while destroying everyone in their way - in other words, swap insanity for even trying to be human.

And then when this doesn't work, they take drugs or kill themselves - which they see as preferable to admitting they are wrong.

Narcissists will narcissist, I guess.
