We live in a society that has grown so "understanding" that it's become impossible to hold people accountable for their behaviors; it's always some devil that makes them do what they do, and who are we to judge? Nevertheless, stigmatizing suicide probably would go a long way toward preventing would-be self-annihilators from putting their thoughts into action.
Abortion kills someone else. Many mentally ill people fight harder and more bravely than you can ever imagine but fail in the end. They are not necessarily cowards.
