Interesting that they think that limiting power under a written constitution and the checks and balance of republican government are somehow inconsistent with civil liberties and problem solving. But unelected and permanent bureaucrats making decisions for all of us "for our own good" is perfectly fine.

Actually, the article is fairly calm and reasoned (although it does get a few digs in) compared to the usual over the top nutburger rhetoric we’ve come to expect from Salon.

The demoRats have taken a hard left and moved extremely away form their former core values. Republicans seem to have taken a left also and picked up the abandoned demorat values. The Silent Majority is still there although somewhat smaller. Polling shows there are about 20% liberals and 40% conservatives. The rats seem to think that they can cheat, steal and bribe their way to win elections and that will make them right. I expect these people will be seeking professional help when the rats start losing elections this fall.

Our government is founded on the constitution and without it there isn't a legitimate government. A Constitutional Conservative is someone that want to preserve the constitution meaning someone that wants to preserve the USA. Anyone against Constitutional supremacy is really saying they want to overthrow the government. The most "right wing extremist" (the Right/Left dichotomy is almost inapplicable to current politics) loon is still an American that believes in American principles, while your hip "moderate" college student wearing a Ernesto "Che" Guevara tee-shirt, sipping a $10 the fair trade macchiato, is really the extremist advocating the overthrow of government.
