His foreign policy, I think, was a little stronger.
As far as his resignation goes, he had more integrity than Bill Clinton OR Hussein Obama.
So true. I hated Nixon’s domestic policies, but his foreign policy was a whole different story.
Richard M. Nixon: the left and their media allies’ first major victory. With damn few defeats since.
At least Nixon loved his country.
While he was far from perfect, I would be awful happy to see him in office today.
Yes. I see the same difference between Obama and 99% of his opponents.
I remember it well. I was 14 and knew this was an historic event, so I recorded the broadcast on my cassette recorder.
Anyone who lived during that time remembers the relentless and ubiquitous media coverage for the months leading to the resignation. It was inescapable and, aside from 9/11/01, nothing has been so omnipresent throughout the airwaves.
It goes without saying that if today’s media were 1/100th as diligent with Bubba and Agent Zero, neither of their presidencies would have lasted more than a year or two.
If the media had done their job, Usurper Zero wouldn't have made it past the Natural Born Citizen clause.
Woodward and Bernstein inspired two generations of the media to try to get Republicans out of office. Consequently, people don’t want to engage in the politics of personal destruction and refuse to run for office. So the connected corrupt have been in charge, to the destruction of our country in the past 40 years.
Compare Rosemary Wood’s missing 18 minutes of tape with Lois Lerner’s e-mail and the oceans of media bias become clear. Celebrations in the press were all over the tube yesterday and will be today.
I would say it's too bad he isn't around for Obama to consult, but Obama and his accomplices only want ideologues like them. They wouldn't pay attention to Nixon's advice anyway.
Nixon also inherited a huge war on the other side of the world, a full- on Cold War with the Soviet Bloc and China, the Civil Rights mess after the King assassination, the mess in the Middle East after the ‘67 War, the Race to the Moon with all of its expenses, an economy in the toilet, and a Leftist insurgency at home aided by the Democrats.
He successfully brought the war towards victory, started the process to de-escalate the Cold War, signed the Civil Rights Act, we landed on the moon, and had to deal with the “anti war (pro-enemy) movement and the hostile press.
Far and away a better President than he was given credit for - a giant compared to everyone after him except Reagan.
A concise summary. Thanks for the clarity.
Good points. Thank you.
As well they should. They successfully brought down a President all by themselves. Where we have a media today who supports an incompetent in office, in those days we had a media monolithically devoted to wrecking Nixon. The was the “Secret Bombing of Cambodia” scandal which didn’t go very far, and then they tried the “Milk Fund Scandal” which didn’t work either. Then Watergate slowly oozed on the scene and the press chased every lead, real or not. Eventually, the people just tired of the drumbeat and Nixon’s support disappeared.
It was a coup, engineered by Leftists who viscerally hated Nixon since anti communist days. The objective was to remove him and therefore cause our final loss in Vietnam.
It worked.
He was a saint compared to BJ and obola.
40 years ago this week the headline on the STAR tabloid at the grocery stores was...
JEAN DIXON SAYS NIXON WILL NOT RESIGN! in huge letters.
Ten years later Jean Dixon’s PR group said she DID predict he WOULD resign, even though I remember several other times she said he would not resign.
I sent a hot letter to the editors of our newspaper over that one.
Seems like every election cycle there is some anniversary of Nixon or Watergate. Nixon wasn’t the best of Presidents, but he was not impeached!
Bill Clinton was impeached! Does anyone hear anything about the only President impeached in the last 100 years? No! There was not a 1 year anniversary, or a five year, or a ten year, or a fifteen year, or a twenty year; but for Nixon there were all those all the way up to the fortieth year.
What an odd year and what an odd event to celebrate. Of course everyone knows that this anniversary celebration during an election year cycle is just coincidence.
The other odd fact is the Press never reviews the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Impeachment is a major historical event; it requires an act of Congress, it has only happened once before. Also the circumstances: Clinton was accused of RAPE; he had sexual exploits in the Oval Office and had numerous young interns / aids he hit on / intimidated. If he were a CEO instead of a demonic-rat President he’d be in jail to this day.
The fact that the media continually re-hashes Watergate while enforcing a news Blackout of Clinton’s impeachment showcases the fact the media filters what their master will allow the people to see.
Of course if the people today saw how the media supported Clinton by poo-pooing the charges, claiming it was only sex and therefore not important, praising how well he lied, how clever he was to redefine what the meaning of ‘is’ is, and attacking the special prosecutor as if he committed a crime; the public would be shocked at there actions.
So maybe it boils down to image: during Watergate the Media were honest, relentless, and brave seekers of the truth; whereas during the Clinton impeachment they were dishonest slackers trying to dupe the public to save morally corrupt President.
