OK...so why would wapo publish this?I know, right? It's like the Times publishing the article that torpedoed the Dem Senator in Montana. Is it possible that they're actually ashamed of their behavior in the past several years and are becoming journalists?

I think it is no more complicated than the fact that city slickers just can't resist an opportunity to take a jab at what they perceive as country bumpkins.
While I think Iowa is a state vastly overrated in its political importance, it is still more important than Washington, DC and the chattering political class is jealous.
By running a negative story on a rural state Democrat now and then, the WaPo can pretend they are actually journalists.

I imagine the media outlets are tired of repeating “Why couldn’t this be a Republican?”. There is so much news they can’t cover and it is hurting profits.
