White House won’t commit on stopping potential ‘genocide’ in Iraq, but weighing options

According to the U.N., between 35,000 and 50,000 fled to nearby Mount Sinjar and other areas, "reportedly surrounded by ISIS armed elements" and lacking water and other aid.

The Washington Post detailed dire circumstances, reporting Thursday that thousands of families hiding on Mount Sinjar are desperate for help and that Iraqi government airdrops of aid are not sufficient. According to the Post, some water bottles also cracked open during the drop.

Reuters reported Thursday that a rescue is underway, and some of the thousands trapped on the mountain have been brought to safety.

But Wolf, in his letter to the president, said the situation deserves higher-level involvement from the Obama administration.

"Time is running out," Wolf wrote. He called for a senior official to be appointed as the "lead person" to coordinate government resources, and greater cooperation with NGOs like UNICEF to channel food and other aid to the victims.

Earnest said Tuesday that the U.S. is supporting the Iraqi security forces and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces defending these areas. He said joint operations centers -- set up after IS first started making significant gains across the region -- in Irbil and Baghdad are sharing information.

Earnest said U.S. and Iraqi officials are discussing a "coordinated approach to the humanitarian situation in that region of the country."

The highest level statement on the matter has come from Samantha Power, U.S. ambassador to the U.N.

Power condemned the attacks "that have reportedly led to the displacement of tens of thousands of people, many from vulnerable minority communities, deepening Iraq's already acute humanitarian crisis." She urged all parties to allow "safe access" to the U.N. and its partners to deliver aid, including to families stuck on Mount Sinjar.

” Lets bring our guys home “
This is the ‘surrender cry ‘ of the Left .
I know a lot of soldiers and Marines , and not one , repeat NOT ONE like to work under all these ROEs and almost assure no victory , no matter hard well they perform or how hard they fight or how many buddies they lose . They ALL want to get in there and kick ass and take names . NONE want to be withdrawn due to civilian leadership ambivalence and failure of resolve . They could give a rats ass what the UN wants . They want to WIN , they want to kill the enemy and leave the few survivors suing for peace as they crawl from under the smoking ruins . I happen to agree with them . No more Vietnams! Righteous wars lost by clueless civilian leadership . F the CIV leadership ; if they can’t do a good job then get the hell out of the way . This is turning into a war for planet earth , no small thing . Fight to WIN , take the gloves off , reinstate the draft and ready for all out full scale war .

I am no surrender monkey. I am pragmatic.

We get into wars. We fail to follow through.

That’s the fact today.

My idea of us fighting a war is to start on one end of a country and level it through to the other side. And then leave. Take no resources. Give no aid.

That will not happen.

And reinstating the draft now would be unproductive. We don’t need them, and they will just get in the way.

‘We’ fail to follow through....

“we” is the clueless civilian leadership , whom fail to follow through . America’s military campaign should not be led or directed by any civilians . Let the war fighters fight the way they choose to . Pull the lawyers out of the planning , commit our best and most effective weapons systems and get the job done right .
Curtis LeMay , not Jimmy Carter , Patton not Obama

America needs to be led by warriors , not by lawyers .
It’s time for the lawyers to be put out to pasture . Now .

You are delusion. That will never happen and you don’t want it to happen.

You watch too many movies.

I absolutely want that to happen .
I am not delusional .
I do not watch any movies ( since Lone Survivor )
This is the time for our war fighters to come forth
and the civilians to step aside .

My point is you are describing a military dictatorship. That never ends well. Our nation was founded with the idea of civilian leadership. We need better leadership, not more Generals.

And Lone Survivor came out about six months ago...that’s pretty recent.

Even your hero Patton needed to be controlled from overstepping his reach. The same with dugout Doug in the Pacific. If we had allowed them to run wild there would be millions of generatios dead, and the world would mostly consist of nuclear hot zones.
