The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday ramped up its response to the expanding Ebola outbreak, a move that frees up hundreds of employees and signals the agency sees the health emergency as a potentially long and serious one.
The CDC’s “level 1 activation” is reserved for the most serious public health emergencies, and the agency said the move was appropriate considering the outbreak’s “potential to affect many lives.” The CDC took a similar move in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and again in 2009 during the bird-flu threat.

As we see the larger context of all this and the years involved, this week seems especially hysterical, and overly excited.
The bottom line is, that based on the information at my disposal, you are wrong. Sorry, that's my opinion. We disagree.

Actually we most certainly do. Members of the US Army (uniformed and DA Civilians) (USAMRIID) have been present in Africa for each major outbreak of Ebola, Marburg, and similar pathogens of military interest. Other organizations within MEDCOM may also deploy from CONUS for outbreaks, as well as the soldiers of USAMRU-K, who are already in Africa. These organizations have a variety of missions, but they do in fact treat patients directly in some cases.
Well, we never can be certain of the accuracy and timeliness of the information from WHO, but they try.
The death rate for this disease can be as high as 80-90% but that’s a extreme case with a strain that has not been seen in a while. Decent medical care which is still somewhat primitive and spotty, not to mention often rejected by the people there, has a lot to do with the rates of death.
In the end, one would expect this outbreak to have a rate of 50-60% after it is over.
Previous to these numbers we got today the infections far outpaced the deaths and one would expect that to catch up as the outbreak slowed and stabilized.
At first blush, these numbers seem to indicate exactly that.
But it’s just one batch of numbers and there could be further outbreaks in other areas if their containment policies fail.
But from what these numbers tell me, the outbreak is beginning to be controlled, or it’s in a sort of lull...waiting for more bad news, but that has not usually been the case. Usually, as I said earlier, these things burn themselves out and disappear for a while before the next one..
1600 infections is the biggest so far, and it may well hit 2000, or just shy of it. That would put the deaths at about 1000 to 1100...but I actually hope it does not go that high with the better care.
It’s unfortunate that so many volunteers were infected. They usually are infected early on before a breakout of Ebola is patently obvious. This will probably change the way WHO sets it’s protocols. And will certainly change the way they deal with future events.
It doesn’t. (Though it makes no sense. How could the CDC or anyone else not forsee or downplay the gravity of such a risk? It is unbelievably reckless.)
My concerns are 1. Introducing ebola in the US, 2.
0bama/ some bureaucracy he controls exploiting such a situation to escalate his agenda, & 3. that a specifically Christian organization would be at the center of such a situation. (see also advancing the left’s agenda)

How have they introduced Ebola in the U.S.? There is plenty of Ebola in the U.S. and Canada.
As far as your nutty conspiracies and Franklin Graham and Evangelical Christians being at the center of it, well that is your own life to think like that.

Our military is not utilized to simply go out and treat ebola patients. Our military assists in the ebola fight in an effort to protect against its spread.
The point is that they don’t do what these civilians were doing over there, and they are not endangering themselves, certainly not in the same way.

According to Philippi, Djibouti health officials have reported seeing improvements in the overall health of the population, which he attributes partly to U.S. efforts in the area. “The Civil Military Operations projects are making a positive impact in the area and are fostering positive relationships with the people of Djibouti,” said Philippi.”
That’s certainly a possibility. We’ll just have to wait & see.

Has anyone within the US ever contracted ebola- fallen sick & died? Is this not a first that this- or any US isolation clinic (not a lab environment- an actual clinic, with an actual afflicted patient) has held someone suffering from the ebola virus?
I am not “blaming” Christians, ansel. There are many players in this drama. I am fearing that if this goes pear shaped, the left will try to use these people’s affiliations to scapegoat them, Samaritan’s Purse...all Christians. Given enough hysteria, we could take a hit.

They are at the best place they can be, the special unit built for the CDC workers handling these kind of things, if we can’t treat these two then we can’t do anything and we are all doomed.
What are you going to do if someone is discovered to have it here in the U.S. besides these two?
