The sheriffs department in Prince Edward Co., Virginia, isnt returning phone calls about Party. No great surprise. A deputy shot the dog in late June, killing it. The department issued a CYA press release, then dummied upperhaps in the hope the whole thing would blow over.
No wonder: According to a news account, the deputy went to the home of Stephen Carwile to serve a paper in a non-criminal matter. The family wasnt home. The departments press release says the deputy was charged by a vicious dog. That would be Partya Golden Retriever. We all know how vicious that breed is. The release says the dog lunged at [the deputy] so he fired his weapon as required by training.

Where is the ASPCA ?
Do you need to make a donation to the Police Athletic League and get a Please Don’t shoot any dogs on this premises sticker for your windows and doors?
What a sad state we as a nation are in, no one is safe. Even the home security system, the dog.
We’re going downhill at a rapid rate of knots.
“as they’re required to do by training’?
Wimps.

One of these days, a dog owner is going to return fire.
I can’t wait.
It’s all part of the “Blue Code.” Several years ago, it was a common practice for rookie cops assigned to a rough neighborhood to shoot a dog on the street. First thing. First day. With witnesses. That sent the message to not screw with the new cop.
The message has not changed. The intended audience has.
I totally agree. Police are too quick to shoot dogs. Now, what can we do about it?
It’s time for a “Willy Pete’s law”.
That’s right! Stop shootin our dogs everytime we turn around. And no, that does not instantly mean it’s Open Season on our Cats & Rats & Unicorns!
“The message has not changed. The intended audience has.”
To the cops, we are all “n-words” now, eh?
Yes! Stop shooting our Dogs! No, that does not mean it’s now Open Season on Cats & Rats & Unicorns.
Apparently the officer just wanted to shoot something. I cannot think of any other reason.
This propensity should be considered the consequence of a mental issue making that officer unfit to patrol let alone be allowed a weapon.
The ASPCA kills almost as many dogs as PETA does. A lot.
“Now, what can we do about it?”
Breed a dog that can shoot back?
If a dog charges you in a confined area, you don’t really have much time to draw a weapon, do you? If the dog meant you harm, you’d have some bite or claw marks to prove it.
seems pretty clear
“as theyre required to do by training?”
This line of reasoning and justification goes down a very dangerous path...to the point where if someone has a gun and is trained to shoot first, your choices for self-preservation (which is the #1 instinct of all living creatures, even human beings) seem rather limited in dealing with the threat.
