Pat Roberts barely scrapes past Milton Wolf in Kansas

Before the polls closed in Kansas yesterday, I predicted that the Republican primary for the US Senate race would be closer than people expected. The incumbent, Sen. Pat Roberts, hadn’t spent much time at home of late — and may not even own a home there at all any more — and losing touch with constituents was what doomed Eric Cantor. Roberts won, but only by single digits against his Tea Party challenger:

Veteran Republican Senator Pat Roberts fought off a Kansas primary challenge by a Tea Party-backed doctor who had promised a “family feud” with his distant relative President Barack Obama if elected, results on Wednesday showed.

Roberts secured 48 percent of the vote and Milton Wolf 41 percent in the four-candidate field, according to final but unofficial results, the Kansas secretary of state said.

Roberts has had a 47-year career in Congress and faced conservative challenger Wolf, who said he wanted to “save the Republic.”

Wolf acknowledged a distant family tie to Obama but built his campaign on promises to repeal many of the Democratic president’s policies. In an interview with CNN, Wolf promised “the mother of all family feuds to save America,” if elected.

Roberts didn’t even get to 50% in a state he’s represented for decades, against a novice candidate. He’ll win re-election easily in November, though; more than four times as many voters turned out in the GOP primary than in the Democrats’ competitive Senate primary. Democrats have a huge enthusiasm problem, and not just in Kansas, either.

It is narrow when you consider polls said Roberts was ahead 60% to 20% a year ago.

The emerging slate of wounded, limping RINO candidates does not fill me with hope for November.

Never knew about him being “anti-Gun”.... Roberts is rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record.

Second cousins through Obama's paternal grandfather I think.

That comment would qualify as a "low information voter" status.

It's also akin to believing in global warming because Hollywierd makes TV shows, movies, etc. claiming it as a "fact."

Whether or not one believes Pat Roberts should retire and let someone younger with lots of energy run for that office, doesn't necessarily follow that every person who desires that office is not only not qualified but also not a person of character such that voters would give him/her trust.

KS has had plenty of RINO and bad GOP elected guys/gals but Pat didn't fall into that category, at least not enough so that some of us believed Wolf was the person we trusted as a replacement.

We will get someone, just not someone who claims he is "a hero deserving of our vote!"

Amen!

Wolf also claimed to be pro-gun, used photos of him with his "weapon of choice" when in reality, he sought out someone very knowledgable with weapons, who dealt in guns, asked him which would be his "weapon of choice," then claimed it was "his (Wolf's) weapon of choice!" Wolf knew next to nothing about the weapon until an expert told him what he liked is just like his purchasing a lifetime membership in the NRA, when he'd never, ever been a member until he decided to run for office (I know this for a fact as a dear friend of mine is on the NRA board and so informed me.)

Two very conservative groups, one in KS and the other national refused to endorse Wolf, Kansans for Life and the Club for Growth.

Whether or not Roberts needs to retire is never an excuse to replace him with a charlatan who managed to fool a few people so that everyone became enamored with someone on the basis of Wolf's being endorsed by a few people who evidently didn't bother to do their homework on Wolf.

Sadly, many of those who signed on to Wolf decided because some of us did not agree with them, chose to take it personally and attack us because we didn't agree!

This is not the way to build the party but the way to destroy it!

A few people that I had counted as friends of decades, decided that if I refused to sign on to Wolf, I was no longer worthy of being a member of the human race!

You would have thought I'd said Adolph Hitler was really a great guy, or I loved Stalin!

I support Roberts in the general. I would have supported Cochran if he came out and refused to take help from RINOS Jerry Moran, Haley Barbour and Trent Lott.

This is a close win for Roberts. Hopefully Moran can be beat with his more liberal record.

The NumbersUSA type immigration groups should reach out to Kris Kobach and make sure he doesn’t endorse Jerry Moran and aware him on Moran selling out to Zuckerberg.

I think Roberts had the endorsements of Huelskamp and Kobach.

There is a flow chart showing how they are related. I didn’t look at it because I hate all things Obama.
