When one speaks with fellow Republicans about the future of the GOP, it is common to receive some negative feedback. This is because many conservative/libertarian Republicans feel the party has simply not done enough to challenge the Obama agenda. There is a widespread feeling among the rank and file that the country is hurtling toward socialism while Republican leaders sit on the sidelines and either do nothing or propose ways to manage socialism more effectively.

I have given up on the GOP and am simply not sure it can ever be reformed.

For a Third Party to be effective, millions of voters need to join it, become active, recruit others and support its candidates. Moreover, millions of dollars would need to be raised to market the party and fight for ballot access changes. I propose that a website be set up that collects pledges. By that, I mean a person would log on, register themselves, and then electronically sign a pledge that commits him or her to vote for a Third Party when the party officially launches. Of course, such a pledge cannot be legally binding, but I doubt most voters would go through the process of registering themselves online unless they were serious. Of course, there would be some fraud, but that would be factored in when determining how much support the new party has.
The when part is the key to this effort. When the number of pledges reaches, say, twenty million voters nationwide, only then does the party launch and actually field candidates. The same kind of tactic could be used to raise money for the new party. When contribution pledges reaches, say, $50 million dollars, the party launches. No more feeble third parties that get 1% of the vote.

And folks wonder why the country is going to hell in a handbasket.
What’s your ETA for a third party majority?
I don’t consider the Bush’s and recent failed prez candidates “sustained reform”.
You present nothing resembling “reasoned thinking”.
We fire the RINOs at the fastest rate possible.
Interim suicide is not a necessary ingredient.
Letting a Dem win the WH in 2016 IS the death of America.
“I am only saying she has removed herself from the game.”
She was “borked” in 2008, in a brilliant media campaign by the left. The enemies of truth ensured that enough of the white middle class couldn’t connect with her (many darker people would have voted against her on race alone anyway), and now those same people are reaping what they’ve sown.
She didn’t remove herself from the game; she couldn’t bring the votes to the ticket that she needed to. Little fault of her own; the people that usually get to choose our leaders waged their campaign well. I’ve instructed my children that nothing they see on TV is an accident; everything sold there (particularly ideas) are there for a reason.
Thank you. I always appreciate when someone makes my point for me.
The successors to the Whigs have only fielded two legitimate opposition candidates since Hoover...Goldwater and Reagan. And since 1988, the Rockefeller wing has put in place a machine Boss Tweed would blush at.
I've listened to the "just wait until next time" line through Papa Bush, Bob ("On The") Dole, Baby ("Compassionate Conservative") Bush, Juan McAmnesty, and Mitt ("The Inventor of Obamacare') Romney. I think it's safe to say we conservatives will be played like a well-tuned fiddle again 2 years from now, and then be told to "suck it up one more time" for another milquetoast candidate running on the Democrat-lite ticket.
The Who's "Won't Be Fooled Again" comes to mind.
P.S., I'm not the least bit interested in a third party, but rather a SECOND party.
We fire the RINOs at the fastest rate possible.
Will they go quietly? We’ve got plenty here telling us we have to reelect Mitch McConnel or the Democrats will win.
So, what’s the answer?
Little fault of her own; the people that usually get to choose our leaders waged their campaign well. Ive instructed my children that nothing they see on TV is an accident; everything sold there (particularly ideas) are there for a reason.
Of course the party wasn’t exactly her friend.
That’s true; having McCain atop the ticket probably doomed it as well (he wouldn’t fight, but played nice).
She has a future as a fundraiser and campaigner, but I don’t see her returning to the national stage.
Did you find a suitable replacement in the Primary?
Did you fight hard enough for that replacement?
Do you think there will be an America left to save if you try your stay home and teach them a lesson strategy?
Ok, so we got the message you’re PO’d.
What’s your strategy to fix the problem?
F the Whigs!
As I mentioned previously, military issues aside, one of the few jobs that the Founding States gave to the feds is to deliver mail; no need for a political party system to deliver mail.
For most other "government" services, patriots need to work with their state lawmakers.
In fact, the Supreme Court has clarified that Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue that Congress cannot justify under its constituitonal Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
So if citizens worked with their state lawmakers to put an end to the tsunami of constitutionally infedersible federal taxes now going to DC, then the individual states could implement the "government" services that the citizens of a given state want and ignore the feds for the most part.
The new Republicans were sick and tired of the slave states and their influence and the constant diluting of the census. The Whigs weren’t getting it done, they were too old and too intrenched (sound familiar?).
Abolition of slavery was taking hold because that is what our Declartion and Constitution stated.
Reconstruction after the war would have much better had Lincoln not be assassinated. The Dems kept figting the Civil War with Jim Crow, Dred Scott, KKK, segregation, etc.
yes but back then a party consisted of constituents. we have and i agree whole hardheartedly de-funded us from the pubs. i don’t give them any money. they are beholden to the only funders. big business/commerce union. how do you fix that.
Can conservatives really hope to accomplish anything when the closet democrats (Gope) are in charge of the Republican party (and sabotage them (Conservatives) at every opportunity) ?
Whatever they do-all angles need to be considered carefully. If conservatives decide to leave the Republican party-they need to All leave at the same time, formally announcing the third party, what it stands for, exc..
Again with the crystal ball. Instead of fear mongering, why not try reasoned discourse? I reject your simplistic scare tactics.
Something different, yes, but do they want Conservatives? If not, what can we do to win people over?
One candidate got more votes then the other?
