They hate free people because they are of a different spirit. They don’t want to accept reality, that liberty can only work for a lawful, moral people.
They attempt to control and enslave others, so that they can act on their immoral, unlawful desires with seeming impunity. They are deluded into thinking that this is freedom, but by their actions - imposing bondage upon freemen - they reveal that they are slaves to depravity, and as such have no inheritance with the free.
I forgot who said it, but there are certain words of wisdom to the effect that you can’t have freedom without moral underpinnings.
