No I believe they were oceanic whitetips.

I wonder if anybody has gone back to the site on this anniversary to see if there is a congregation of sharks there. You know, like that well known fact of sharks patrolling the slave trade routes from Africa?

I read once that the special torpedos were manned sucide Mini Subs—Naval versions of the Kamakazi airplanes—That’s why they hit so accuratly—One of the few times such a weapon was used.
