Getting pregnant is one thing. But, it is my understanding that women cannot serve aboard a ship after their 20th week of pregnancy or serve in a forward-deployed location.

Does this mean a pregnancy test before deployment on a sub to make sure they are not at week 20?

No pregnant women on Submarines, period.

Submarines are not equipped to deal with potential complications of pregnancy. Adequate medical attention could be weeks away if something were to go wrong...very high risk. Same reason Submariners don’t go to sea with their wisdom teeth...

In the USAF as soon as they test positive we had to pull them from all flight line/maintenance related duties. This was because of all the chemicals. I believe a sub would be worse because you are living in machinery.

Since they could not work the trainees had to be put in a hold status until they had the baby and returned to work. All told over a year.
